The Westin Pittsburgh

The staff at the hotel are very nice and helpful. Our king room was spacious but a bit tired. The bedding was odd: bottom sheet was flat, not fitted, which left the mattress exposed. Pillows were worn, and in need of replacement. Good water pressure in the shower which had new fixtures which we appreciated. Hotels that cater to conventions do see a lot of traffic, so the wear and tear was not unexpected. The immediate area around the hotel can be seedy particularly at night, but easy access to the bridges and the restaurants on.Penn.

Staff were not very friendly upon arrival and checkout. Bed was very worn and had a hole on one side. Disappointed.

There are a couple of phenomenal aspects to this Westin, and a couple of things that disappoint. Overall, it's a great place to stay and I would stay again. SERVICE Excellent. Upon check-in, I asked for any available upgrades and as a Marriott Platinum, I was given a corner suite. This was perfect for traveling with a young child to give them their own space with a rollaway bed in the bar/living room area, which is separated from the bedroom by a door. The front desk had to put in some work to make this room available and get me the rollaway. LOCATION One of the phenomenal things about this property. It's in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh, easy to reach from any direction you might use to come into the city, and about 20 minutes from the airport with light traffic. It's convenient to the T, and walking to the Strip is reasonable, especially in decent weather. For me, the location is ideal. ROOMS You can tell that this hotel has been around for decades, despite the renovations. The overall design of the rooms, with the bathroom door opening into a tub/shower combo, is obsolete. It has that archaic hotel room design feel, especially in the suite, where the bar area is designed like it was in the 1980s. This is not to say the decor or appointments or furnishings are dated, it's the architecture itself. Despite that, the corner suite is huge with ample space (except for the bathroom, which cannot change). Everything that can be updated has been updated to Westin standards - showerhead, bedding, etc. AMENITIES The other phenomenal aspect of this property. The fitness center is incredible for a hotel gym. I can safely say that this is the best hotel gym, especially considering it is not a "partnership" gym where the hotel has an agreement to allow guests to use a 3rd-party facility. No, this is all Westin. There are two huge rooms, one with dumbbells up to 100 lbs. (!!!), two barbells, a squat rack, plates, and plenty of machines, both strength and cardio. The second is more of a studio, with a massive amount of floor space, kettlebells, TRX trainer, and mirrors. It's unbelievable for a hotel to offer a gym like this. On the downside, the locker rooms are REALLY dated, and the "steam room" is a disaster. It is not cleaned or controlled as it should be, and instead of giving you the relaxation/decompression feeling when you open the door, you are greeted by the smell of mildew and mold. It's disgusting. FOOD The restaurant buffet offers great service, but the food selection is not up to Westin standards. Omelettes are not an option, and the hot items are pretty much the same you'd find at Springhill Suites. OVERALL Tremendously good in a few areas, and decent in some others. I'd definitely stay here again.

Generally unfriendly front desk and Marriott Status not acknowledged at check in 7/12/25 2:45 ish. Valet Steve was friendly. TV did not work. Called Front desk around 7:45pm, was advised engineer would respond. No one came. Dirty coffee lids on our cups. Requested 2pm check out per Gold Status, which was received, but housekeeping entered room any way at 10:50am, despite Do not disturb sign still on door. Walked Liberty Ave to The festival we were attending. This was in daylight twice, both ways and encountered several menacing street people, despite this being the Cultural District. Absolutely would not walk at night.

Location, location, location. The property layout is super convenient with easy access to the convention center and local amenities. Like many properties, I felt the room was not as updated and fresh as the public areas were. Check-in was extremely fast and efficient. The value is in the proximity to the freeway and downtown life.

Overall good will stay again
