Holiday Inn Express - Indiana by IHG

Convenient, clean hotel close to IUP for campus visit. Friendly, helpful staff.

The breakfast was wonderful, the gym was nice, the room was comfortable overall and staff was friendly. Location was very good. We were there for a swim invitational at IUP and it was about 5 minutes away. Check in was fast and the water in the shower was nice and hot.

The pool area was very disappointing. Part of the ceiling was falling in, doors were very rusty and the water was freezing. Room was clean overall although the vent in the bathroom had cobwebs but the common areas were very dirty.

Check in clerk was worried about later appts instead of giving us additional bedding for our pull out bed and extra towels. Had to make 2 trips downstairs to get them.

The smoke detector beeped all night. I told the receptionist about it and she said someone would change the batteries in the morning. This is unacceptable. 1st off the batteries should be changed out on a schedule and shouldnt have to rely on the chirping sounds to replace batteries. Total disregard for the safety of your guests. The detectors not only are for smoke/Fire but carbon monoxide as well. Not acceptable!

Location to event

Front staff was not at check-in and waited 15 minutes in lobby while it was jammed with 20+ people. Once checked in and given 2 separate floors for family, the one room had a non working tv. Called service desk explaining the lights worked on the remote, but would not activate the tv. I was told to bring remote to service desk for new batteries. Arrived at service desk again to stand there with no one there for 7 minutes. Replaced batteries and again the tv did not work. I called down to be told they would look for another room and call back. After 20 minutes of waiting, I went down to service desk. Again no one was there, and a lobby full of people awaiting to pay for merchandise. People got tired of waiting and just put money down on the counter and walked away. 22 minutes later the staff emerged from the back room. Her response was, ” What do you need” I said you were to call with a different room or let me know. She states, “there are no rooms available” I asked what about the non working tv? Her response was nothing I can do about it. I asked to be compensated for having a room with non working tv, to be told because I booked through Booking.com I had no compensation available. If I would have booked through them (hotel) directly, I could have been. I asked if I could talk to a manager, and her response was sometime tomorrow between 7-3. That next morning no manager, when checking out and was told they would call me that day. Taking my name and number, and still no return call. So for an evening in a room with no tv, rude and non available customer service was not worth our money.

I really DID NOT like having a room on the 1st Floor (basement level) near the pool and fitness center, as well as “storage area.” It was NOISY, STINKY, and GENERALLY UNPLEASANT. The blinds did not come down all the way and the light coming through, especially at night, was annoying! There was also a draft coming through the window area, which I tried to “block” with rolled up towels. All in all, having a room in the basement had the feel of being in a DUNGEON! My prior stay on the 3rd floor was more NORMAL! At least the complimentary breakfast and the location (not far from Philadelphia Street, where I visited “downtown”) was good.
