Live Aqua Dominican Republic | December 17–23 Review
We stayed at Live Aqua Dominican Republic from December 17–23 to celebrate our anniversary. While the resort itself is beautiful and peaceful, our experience had both high highs and some serious lows that need to be shared honestly.
Arrival & Room Issue
We paid for a Fuego Ocean View Suite, but upon arrival on Wednesday, the bellman immediately informed us—before even entering the room—that room 1122 was not an ocean view. He was absolutely correct. There was no ocean view at all.
At VIP check-in, we were told the resort was overbooked and that we would need to stay in that room for the night and be moved the next day. An operations manager later assured us the issue would be handled within hours, but we heard nothing further that day.
By Thursday afternoon (around 4–5pm), after multiple conversations and follow-ups, we were finally moved to room 1110, the ocean view we originally paid for. While we appreciated receiving the correct room, we lost an entire day of a premium experience that comes at a significant additional cost. Unfortunately, no compensation was ever offered—no spa credit, dining credit, or partial refund—despite bringing it up several times.
Beach & VIP Service
Beach chairs are extremely limited. If you want a decent spot, you need to arrive very early—9am may already be too late. There was also confusion with butler service initially, but this was eventually resolved.
The People Who Made This Trip Special
Despite the challenges, the staff is what truly made this resort memorable.
Jesus (Live Party) is the heartbeat of this resort. His energy, personality, and ability to make guests feel excited and welcome is unmatched. He alone adds tremendous value to the Live Aqua experience.
Yuleisy went above and beyond in every way possible. From day one, she remembered our names, our anniversary, our spa plans, and our romantic dinner. She checked in daily, celebrated with us, and made us feel genuinely cared for. Her customer service was exceptional, intentional, and heartfelt.
At the main lobby bar (Floor 0), Adrian, Willie, and Rosa were outstanding. They remembered our drinks after the first visit and had them ready almost immediately every night. Adrian takes real pride in his craft and even taught us how to make specialty cocktails. Their teamwork was impressive.
Keiri at the Liberty buffet made every breakfast special. She greeted us warmly each morning and often gifted us small tokens. She even sent me home with coffee I’m currently enjoying and, on our last day, wrote “Have a safe trip” in Spanish on a napkin with coffee beans. A truly kind soul.
For our anniversary dinner, Orlando provided excellent service and made the evening feel special. At the beach, Angelo stood out as well—he remembered our favorite drinks (espresso martinis and Old Fashioneds) and made sure we were always taken care of.
At the French restaurant, Pedro was welcoming, attentive, and even offered to take photos of us—something no other restaurant staff did.
Unfortunately, our experience at the Italian restaurant (Sospiro) was very disappointing. Our server Jose Luis was rude, inattentive, skipped our table repeatedly, and made us feel rushed and ignored. However, Jefferson, who delivered the food, was wonderful and deserves recognition.
Checkout & Payment Concern
After officially checking out, receiving a receipt, confirming twice that our balance was paid in full, and being allowed to leave the resort, I received a text message at the airport with a payment link, claiming an error was made.
The link did not appear official and was not sent through proper resort communication. This was confusing and concerning. If there had been a true balance, it should have been addressed before we were allowed to leave, through official documentation—not a text message.
Final Thoughts
Would we return? Yes.
Aside from the issues on the first and last day, the days in between were amazing. The majority of the staff made us feel celebrated, welcomed, and genuinely cared for.
Live Aqua has incredible potential. With improved communication, follow-through, and professionalism when problems arise, this resort could easily deliver a flawless experience.
