The Source, Otways

We stayed in the cottage. The location is good, nice and close to Apollo Bay. It’s a beautiful drive whichever way you head in. The cottage itself is quite spacious. There was puzzles and games which is nice and a fire place for cooler nights.

I feel like once upon a time this was a beautiful stay but it feels like it’s a bit run down and not well looked after any more. Unfortunately we didn’t really feel the cottage was worth the price. I didn’t realise when booking that it is two small houses split into four so in the cottage you’re backing onto the caretakers. They’re not very private rooms. Unfortunately the cottage had not been cleaned properly prior to our arrival. The owner did contact us and offer to have the cleaners attend but it was disappointing it wasn’t done ready for our arrival. Little things that seemed to be overlooked like there was no milk, old mostly empty shower products, dirty dish sponges and tea towels in my opinion don’t really sit within this price point of a stay.

We like the serenity and the quietness of the area.

The bathroom was freezing and hard to get a good temperature in the shower. Also very slippery in the shower. The balcony area was filthy covered in chook poo and so was the door mat. We had clean before use. Not a lot of utensils in the kitchen or a chopping board. No kindling so you had to chop your own. The property is not maintained nicely for the money you're paying.

Another great stay at the Source, lots of water in the waterfalls at the moment and also a lot of glowworms!

The location is beautiful, surreal and unexpectedly exceeded my expectations, the hiking trails weren't overly difficult and the views were magical, the property is nice and has such an open feel about it. Former reviews made it seem like there was no sink/kitchen but it comes with a kitchen sink, the cottage is tidy and has a cosy feel to it. Various wildlife, roaming chickens and cows nearby, true nature and farm feel.

There was no signal other than one spot a little away from the property, its not a deal breaker but made it difficult while trying to ensure contact to the outside world, the cottage is close to the homestead but that's fine as you'll mostly have the trails to your self and everyone respects each others privacy.

I loved the location and the fire place. It was clean, comfortable and well appointed.

Unfortunately we didn’t get to go near the cows and did not see the waterfall. Mobile reception is sparse. It would be great to have an instruction booklet on how to use the stovetop and fireplace.
