Driftwood Beach Lodge

The staff is wonderful and very helpful. We stayed in a Bungalow with Sea View. Although these rooms have no air conditioning, we found the ocean breeze and the fan to be enough to keep us comfortable. Breakfast is very good! And the restaurant is good in general - we had several dinners here as well. The view is great, the beach is beautiful. Be aware that the ocean here is tidal, so the water can recede quite far. This did not bother us because we could always use the pool :)

Delicious breakfasts, beach fantastic, many places to read and relax, books and laundry available, close to Jambiani village, friendly people. The pool was amazing and the sunrises too!

Very beautiful Lodge with very friendly staff and the Restaurant ist also very good, especially the lobster. If you want to relax it is perfect.

What we really liked: location, nice swimming pool, friendly owners and friendly stuff, save place and save area, beachfront, very good air-condition in the room, good wifi connection even in the garden or swimming pool area, excellent place to see the sunrise, possibility to book a taxi in the hotel, good shower pressure and hot water, comfortable bed and pillows, all very clean. Our flight back was in the evening so we could stay in the hotel longer without extra costs, it was very convenient, thank you for this. In general, the place is awesome but we had some inconveniences.

The cabin we booked was located at the very back and close to a power generator. Unfortunately, power cut happeded on two nights we where there. The power generator was loud and was emiting fumes. At the same time, was too weak to give any power to air-condition so we were forced to keep the windows closed without air-condition on and we could still hear the noice, unfortunately. Also, very hot with windows closed. We asked for a change but all the other rooms/cabins were fully booked. My advice: pay a little more and book a sea view cabin which are far from the power generator and have an amazing view! we regret we didn't do that. I'm sure if we had booked a sea front cabin, we would be more than happy with our holiday! Some sunbeds need renovation or replacement.

Very friendly owners from South Africa. The room was clean and had everything we needed, like air conditioning. The view from the bench on the little tower was amazing, overlooking the beach and ocean. The natural beach was clean, although there was some algae, but hardly any trash unlike other places in Zanzibar. It was perfect for long walks!

The place has tremendous potential, but we found that better organization and coordination are necessary. For instance, breakfast took nearly two hours to prepare, with an alleged fruit shortage causing an unnecessary delay, despite fruits being easily accessible outside the compound later. Additionally, the hotel and its garden could benefit from renovation, care and maintenance to match the hip and lively atmosphere of neighboring hotels. The pool water was cloudy, with sunscreen floating on the surface. It would be nice to either remove or repair the worn sun-lounger. Furthermore, frequent power cuts on our first day deprived us of A/C or a fan from 1am to 7am. Delaying the generator until morning, supposedly to avoid disturbing other guests, left us sleepless.

We had a wonderful eight days at Driftwood and probably had the most relaxed holiday of our lives. Days were spent meandering between the beach on the doorstep, pool and sun beds. Uishi and Dricus were great hosts together with all of the staff we encountered. Food was also excellent and very well priced. The bungalows may be described as rustic but met all of our needs.

The friendliness of the staff was great and the food was amazing. The location was perfect at a quiet location with a lovely pool and the best view over the sea.

Very nice place with a beautiful green garden and an amazing pool with a five star view, which ist pretty rare in the whole area. The people are very friendly and will try to help you with everything you need. We felt like being at home (well being at home, but with nice weather and beaches with the bluest blue waters you have ever seen🏝️🙈), it’s very cosy and a super choice, if you have a smaller budget on your trip to Zanzibar. I can totally recommend it! Thank you for everything!
