Driftwood Beach Lodge

First off, the location: Jambiani is close to a lot of the great snorkeling and fishing spots, as well as caves, turtle caves and spice farm. Most things can be done on this side of the island which is great! Additionally, it is a bit quieter than the northern part of the island in terms of overall number of tourists, which was perfect for us! Driftwood Lodge - we loved the setting! On arrival, the entrance to the lodge and the thatched roof dining area perfectly frame the bright blue water and white sand of the beach - which is about 20 meters away! We were greeted by Rash, one of the friendly and helpful staff, with fresh coconuts. There is a fantastic pool that ties together the beach bar and dining areas, which has a magnificent view over the sea. We enjoyed cocktails, which were made using fresh fruit, whilst watching the local fishing boats from the pool. Our room was one of the bungalows which has a veranda/terrace that we enjoyed our breakfast on with an ocean view. The room itself was very spacious and clean, had a designated cupboard area for storing clothes, a clean and spacious bathroom and even an outdoor shower which we used in the evenings under the stars. The bed is surrounded with a mosquito net and a ceiling fan sits within the net, so in the evenings you can close it off, and sleep comfortably. The bungalow is naturally vented so it never got uncomfortably warm inside - it was always cool and pleasant. Our Hosts, Dricus and Ushi were fantastic! Friendly, kind, good stories and willing to organise whatever it is that we needed - food, car hire, fishing - there is nothing that they weren't willing to help with and it was done quickly, efficiently and cost effectively. They had our room decorated beautifully (it was our honeymoon) with flowers, palm leaf lettering, seashells and an iced bucket of champagne - it was an awesome surprise to an already great first impression of the lodge.

It's only fair to point out the things we thought could be improved on. The main critique for us would be on the dining side of things - not necessarily the food itself, but the time taken to deliver. The service was slow. There were a few times we waited way too long for the food to arrive. That being said, there was always fresh fish, caught the same day or the day before; lobsters, octopus, calamari - the seafood is great! Also, Bacon! One of the only places on the island that serves bacon! We had requested a seafood feast for our last evening and they pulled out all the stops, it was fantastic! If you don't like seafood, there was a good variety of other foods like pizzas, burgers, chicken and pastas although we can't comment on them, our diet consisted mainly of seafood.

very nice and attentive staff…lovely pool overlooking the sea, so beautiful! quiet location and relaxing.

the menu was kind of limited, especially the breakfast menu. the shower head was also broken but still useable and good hot water. there was one night some strange music played at the bar while the owners were around that referenced Hitler…so that was weird and not great.

Breakfast was yummy. The staff made alot of effort to accomodate my friend who has recently been forced to a Gluten Free diet. The location is great, RIGHT ON THE BEACH! Property is well maintained, neat and clean. Bar staff was super friendly and accomodating as well as the Managers. Especially with any special requests trying to make our stay as good as possible. A few complaints about the wine storage but this was cleared up when brought up.
