"Avoidable Resort at Puerto Vallarta"

4.0

This property has not been upgraded. Everything is old and dated. Although we had booked a suite that is supposed to sleep 4 people, we found to our dismay that the second bed, is a sofa bed that is a twin, so not good if you are a little tall too. Also it had to be specially requested and set up by their staff. Property location (south Puerto Vallarta) is far away from happening places like Romantica. Added to that food delivery services such as Uber Eats do not deliver to this resort (being a vegetarian,we wanted to order food from outside since there were limited choices on the property). But the worst part is their service. The room phone was broken and it took 2 days for them to have it replaced after multiple follow ups.The only heated swimming pool is so small and is very crowded. A couple of good things: 1. Every room has an ocean view and we even saw whales sitting in our balcony. 2. The suite was quite roomy with a kitchen/utensils etc.

"Management needs to put some money into small things which make a big difference"

6.0

Lots of potential, but lots of complaints from other guests and timeshare owners. Management need to put some money into fixing the place up and buying more locks for the room safe (you need to wait until someone who has one checks out), more pool towels (often out), refrigerators, key readers that work. A timeshare owner had no water. Required to pay 13k peso deposit at check in (applied to purchases and balance refunded at check out). Watch out for convenance store-prices not marked & I ended up paying 0ver US$15 for a pint of ice cream. Supposedly, floors 7 and 12 are remodeled. Our room showed wear and tear, but housekeeping kept it clean. Every room has an ocean view and we saw whales every day. Restaurant food was surprisingly good.

"Disappointed"

4.0

We booked 2 1/2 weeks here, left after 3 nights. The staff was all very friendly and the food was pretty decent. The location on the water is great, and the fireworks we were able to see on New Years Eve were amazing. We were on the 8th floor in the South bldg and the traffic noise was pretty bad, you could hear the trucks and motorcycles all day and more importantly all night. We would get whiffs of sewage out on our balcony. Couches were old and dirty, barely anything in the kitchen, but the room was a nice size and no problem with hot water. Only 2 towels were given, no hand towel, no wash clothes, no kitchen towel. The gym had 1 working treadmill, 1 broken one, 1 recumbent bike, 1 spin cycle, free weights, and one weight machine. It was super small, and no towels in there either. Pool towels were scarce, had to wait for them to be dried twice, and there were no available pool chairs anyway. We did go down to the beach all 3 days, on the first day I was in the water and thought it smelled off, but i just ignored it. The 2nd day my husband had to go get the beach chairs himself because they were short handed, and that's when we discovered the source of the smell. They stack the pool chairs and tables on the south end of the beach, and it was all muddy down there with what smelled like sewage coming out of the wall, and it was leaking right into the water where everyone was swimming. I did not go back into the water, and we checked out the next day, and cancelled our remaining 2 weeks there. I've been travelling to Mexico for 20+ years, and would be fine with almost all the things I've listed on here, but NOT the sewage draining right into that small inlet where all the hotel guests swim. That was the deal breaker. It's unfortunate, because their location on the water has amazing views.

"Will not return"

8.0

The staff is great at this hotel. Our housekeeper, Juanita was professional and super accommodating. Waiter Neto from the restaurant was funny and his team of waiters were always rushing to serve all who were at the pool, beach and restaurant. All of the men who greet you at the entrance are knowledgeable and welcoming. Special shout out to Juan who helped us with locating a key to the safe. Sad to say we will not be returning to this property after 4 years. When we were making our reservations for next year, we were informed that they will be an all inclusive hotel from April onward. We believed it was a good value these past four years. However, going forward, the property needs serious updating. The food is average and we would hate to be confined to that restaurant for all our meals. Drinks are watered down at the bar and housekeeping leaves their caddy in the hall or in the stairwell. Paying double for all-inclusive-nope!

"The worse experience"

2.0

If I could give this place a negative ! I would! Please don’t stay there ! Spend a little more and stay elsewhere! This place is horrid ! Nothing , absolutely nothing works ! We changed rooms three times ! The first room had mold everywhere, the furniture was ancient and falling apart , the second room had no service lines , nothing either such as blow dryer , the third room smelled like sewer ! Omg I can go on and on! Their laundry facilities broke so you had no bath towels ! No pool towels ! Insane !!!! And all to save a few bucks ! Horrid! Please everyone don’t stay there! And to the management if you read this , let upper management know the conditions of the hotel , it is in desperate need of a complete rehab if not a total tear down !

"Awesome stay !"

10.0

Stayed for two weeks in January 2026. Had a great time. The resort is a smaller one which totally suited us. The staff was always friendly and helpful! Food and drinks were great too! We were in a studio room with a view that’s hard to beat. Special thanks to Juan, Moise, Neto, Rafael and Raul! See you next time!

"What a Magical Stay"

10.0

We had a magical time staying at Costa Sur. Our room was great, the resort is super clean & the people are wonderful here. The kitchen in our room was well appointed & came with cups, a coffee maker, cutlery &, pots & pans. For basic essentials like water, oil, rice etc. you can purchase them in the store downstairs by the lobby or simply shop in Puerto Vallarta for better pricing and more variety. The restaurant was very tasty albeit a bit expensive but was a nice treat to have on site. Our bed was comfortable & the smart tv was a nice touch. We had some issues with water pressure but the manager of the resort took care of it straight away which we were very grateful for. She was a real sweetheart & we truly appreciated all of her help! I was very impressed by the cleanliness of the whole resort. Nightly we saw the pool being cleaned & throughout the day there was always cleaning people at work The beach is quite rocky. I recommend purchasing water shoes before attempting it. There are also a lot of sea urchins in the water that are super sharp. The lagoon is a great place for snorkeling. I also recommend bringing along some gear & giving it a try. Our view from our room was truly AMAZING! We had no need to purchase any other tours. Right from our balcony we saw dolphins, rays, big fish & best of all humpback whales! Incredible doesn't describe the experience of eating breakfast while watching them swim by. The location is just outside the city. It is walkable into town. However, you would have to walk alongside the busy highway out front. It's worth just taking a taxi, Uber or the bus. The bus stop is just across the street. My understanding is that it only costs around 20 pesos. We would Uber to Playa los Muertos & walk everywhere we wanted to from there. All in all a great time staying here. I would definitely do it again in a heartbeat. Thank you & have a wonderful trip!

"Beautiful place but services are misrepresented."

6.0

We just came back from a week at Costa Sur in Puerto Vallarta. We booked through Air B&B. On the plus side the room was great. Clean, well maintained, mini kitchen and nice bathroom. The balcony looked out at the bay and the sunsets are unbelievable! Absolutely beautiful. There are a lot of rules at the place which I was happy to see. No noise 10pm-8 am. And no smoking anywhere on property. That’s great. The service staff was accommodating and very pleasant. The common areas were well kept and beautifully themed. It is a short bus (10 Pecos) or cab ride (120 Pecos) from downtown PV. Lots of great food in PV! Unfortunately, The venues policies and administration really spoiled the experience. *all inclusive is offered. You can purchase it for one day or the whole week as needed. You’d think that would be great as the restaurant menu looks amazing as did the bar drinks. However, for $120 Canadian per person , it covers a very limited menu. The nicer meals on the restaurant menu are not available. Limited times you are able to have food or drinks. Bar drinks are watered down and selection is limited. I was told we are not allowed to bring food or drinks to our rooms as we could be giving them to people who hadn’t paid for the all inclusive. When you pay for all inclusive, food and beverages are available from noon-10 (I think) and then breakfast the next day 8-10 with no bar drinks. So, basically you’re not getting all inclusive at all and the price is premium. * there was a wedding on the weekend. Rehearsal dinner on the Friday took 95% of the available staff leaving minimal service in the dining area. 30 minute wait for a drink and lower quality dinners. Saturday we got a notice under the door that there would be loud music playing until 12:30 am and that 50% of the common area would be blocked off. It WAS loud and we could feel the base in our walls until we turned the ac on high which toned out the thumping. On the bright side, we were blessed with an incredible sunset and given a fireworks show that was really incredible. *no smoking on premises… except there was plenty of smoking right in front of the venue which lofted into the space. That really couldn’t be helped. People smoke. *drinks and food when not paying for all inclusive. The drinks are very watered down. No fancy beverages or garnishes. Very over priced. We had Guac and chips, fries and 4 alcoholic beverages on Saturday and our bill was over 1800 pecos! $145 Canadian! Crazy.. *Prior to check in: we were sent an email that we had to send photographs by email of our drivers licence and passport. I replied that we Would bring our id with us but we would not be sending it by email. We were told that we may be denied entry if we didn’t send it in. I explained we were advised not to send photos of our identification by our government. Finally they said our check in would require extended time and to allow for that. Anyway, we would never stay there again. We are generous and love to support local businesses and their families, but that was administration greed and misrepresentation. If it wasn’t for some of the really lovely staff there, I would have felt really taken advantage of.

"Our waitress Alma!"

All the staff at Costa Sur and the dining options shine! Alma is a dynamo moving from table to table greeting guests and making all feel comfortable and welcome! Enjoy cocktails and good food around the pool. Watch whales from the pool deck or from the tiki bar.
