La Ceiba Tree Lodge

Everything! Sergio is the most gracious host and treated us like family . The accommodations overlooking Lake Arenal are spectacular with daily sunsets and the grandmother la Ceiba tree overlooking us. The coffee was made the traditional Costa Rican Way and the generous breakfasts were different every day. The rooms were clean and comfortable. 10 stars!

Loved everything

Incredible location, beautiful views of the lake and the famous giant Ceiba tree (on land owned by a neighbour; there is a charge to visit the base of the tree). Sergio was a very thoughtful host and served a delicious breakfast. Room was spacious and cool, with the ceiling fan (no A/C) being more than adequate. A very tranquil and special place worth seeking out.

The location was super quiet and amazing for bird watching and nature watching. Spectacular views coupled with super helpful staff made our stay memorable.

The grounds of the lodge are fabulous. There is plenty to explore, with an orchid garden and the Ceiba Tree overlooking the property. The breakfast was really nicely done, with a fabulous set-up of the flowers hanging down from the roof of the place. Also overlooking the Lake Arenal, and a feeding station for birds. Fresh coffee brewed the original way at the table. We also got our laundry done by the hosts, which was really handy, great value and done with more care than dedicated businesses for it. We paid extra for the room with a terrace, and it was worth that for the view and sitting out.

There was no air conditioning, which would have been nice, but there is a fan in the roof, and in truth it was sufficient for our needs. It may be that in the height of summer, it needs a bit more.

The views are absolutely amazing from both the bedroom and dining area. The hosts are very helpful and provide great recommendations. The breakfast is good, the coffee is great, and the location is just amazing.

One of the most wildly beautiful and unique places our world traveling family has ever stayed. The host was so gracious, friendly and kind, even making a pot of mint tea from his garden plant for my sick child. The view from the rooms is total wow factor: the 500 year old massive ceiba tree + the lush rainforest with all the colorful tropical plants and birds + the lake = heaven! The rooms are spotless and the home cooked meals delicious. I hope we have the good fortune to start here again someday 🥰

Sergio, host and chef, is a very delightful guy and a good cook. We enjoyed our conversations with him. The breakfast was delicious. The setting is beautiful and tranquil although there were not the birds touted in the description. While the patio was an extra delight for spending time outdoors, the room was a bit tired. The description did say "rustic" but I would think for the price, it should have been classier.

The driveway is a challenge but at least it wasn't mud! It is out of the way, meaning not easy to pop to town for dinner, so we reserved dinner with Sergio. There was no price quoted and there was no choice. My husband felt $24 each for vegetarian spaghetti was a bit much. Booking.com misquoted the price for the room: it wasn't $74.00 but $93.31, too high for the room. We spent far less for nicer rooms but the setting is peaceful so I guessed that was reason for higher than normal price.
