For starters - the official Hyatt website has changed a great deal since we booked late summer of 2025. All the things that made us choose this resort are no longer on the website. Because they aren't at the resort! Also, PSA, the property also houses a condominium building; they can use all the amenities, so it isn't actually a small resort. This is the 5th time I have stayed at an all-inclusive and this is my first review because I am hoping to spare others our experience.
You pull up to the resort and it looks a little rundown, that's okay. We thought it would get better. It did not. If you have never been to an all-inclusive before, you would probably be okay, but we were very disappointed. Lobbies are statements at these places. Here it is under "construction" (a small section boarded up behind the concierge desks), but it wouldn't have made much of a difference. We were taken from the motor lobby to a boardroom for check-in. It was functional, but the room was hot, stuffy, and it smelled; the carpet had horrendous stains. The closest washroom was missing a toilet seat (the whole week we were there). And the lack of explanations or general information given at check-in made for a confusing first day for us.
The website said it is a family friendly resort, but our kids aged 8 & 10 struggled. The food options for them, quite honestly, sucked. Out of the few options in the kids corner, only ever 3 to 5 things, there were never anything plain. We have a child with sensory issues, so the draw of a kids corner/menu was huge for us. But that was not reflected at all. There was no ice cream other than our last night at the buffet for supper dessert or the Da Mario a la carte for dessert. We got the bunk bed room and it was very tight not to mention there was no place to unpack our clothes - 2 drawers is not enough for a family!
We requested water in our room multiple times and did not get it until 2 days later, but then not again during our stay. In total, we received less than 12 bottles of water for 4 people for a week stay. There were water refill stations on the bars, but they didn't get placed there until 11am or later. We were ground floor, so relatively close to Coco Cafe, but the water station was empty there whenever we tried to use it.
Restaurants: the website no longer lists them or their operating hours....very strange.
The buffet was meh (we actually walked to the mall nearby on our 3rd night to find a better supper. This was before we tried Da Mario). Not a lot of options, and long waits due to the poor layout of the space. AND THERE WAS NO GUACAMOLE. Birds all over in the seating area (way more than any resort we have been to in the past). We had a group of 7 and it is telling that most days we chose to eat the hot dogs from the food truck as opposed to go to the buffet. Da Mario was good, best food there. We took the kids because they were old enough, but seemed we were treated differently for having kids. The website said (circa August 2025) Tiki Taco was adult only, so we didn't go there until we noticed kids in there one night and asked. Yup, kids can go in. So we went the next night. Food was good, but it was buffet, not a la carte. But better quality than the main buffet. There was avocado paste here, but no guac. Be prepared, it is very hot in there, especially if you are seated close to the back buffet area with the grills.
Rooms were mostly clean, but they can only do so much when the resort needs a lot of TLC and updates. Our family room was small, and we never had the right amount of towels - only once we had enough, all other days we were shorted. And only face cloths 2 days out of 7 - I even translated a note into Spanish to ask for some. We got more hand towels that day, but only that day. We had NO furniture for our terrace, which was greatly annoying. But par for the course because no ground floor rooms had furniture. But the website specifically states furnished terraces for ground floor rooms. As stated above there were very slim storage options for unpacking - only a small shelf (fit kids hats and glasses) in the bunk closet and 2 drawers by the king bed, plus 2 nightstand drawers.
We all liked the pool, especially my kids, but there were loose tiles, so be careful. The website said no tubes or anything like that in the pool, so we didn't bring any. But people were using them, so we went and bought 2. Splash park water was very cold, but kids enjoyed it for short periods. Pool was closed for 2 hours one day while we were there, but they did not communicate it well with guests. The staff around the pool was very attentive, shout out to Alex for making our girls feel like stars. There were signs saying any chairs left unattended for more than 30 minutes would be forfeit, but we did not see that happening. And there were lots of people who placed towels at 7AM, but didn't return until afternoon.
The ocean and beach were good. Not many lounge seats, so we spread the towels on the sand. Lots of peddlers, but all accepted no for an answer. We swam in the ocean almost every day, but some people might not like it due to rocks or the strong current. Walking along the beach in either direction was enjoyable. Also watching the sunset on the beach was a great experience.
The entertainment team was top notch. They were engaging and polite and very talented. Definitely attend the shows. I did enjoy the mini Spanish lessons whenever I interacted with them. Downside is there is not a set place for shows, some were performed at the base of the stairs just out from the Coco Cafe and Rendezvous Bar. Others were on the small island in the pool. Awkward for spectators to watch and never enough seats. Our room faced the splash park. The rooms on the other side of the hallway faced the open area where the nightly movies and shows were, so they would be very loud until after 10pm.
The resort did have a very unique resource for pest control. There was a gentleman with a hawk that would chase away the other birds. It was fascinating to watch. We did see maybe 5 different iguanas, some of them are quite large, so were also interesting. But other than birds, no other wildlife until our last day we saw a raccoon family.
We didn't take many pictures for 2 reasons:
1. we chose to live in the moment with our kids since this was our first trip since 2017
2. we didn't want to capture the disappointment of the resort.
All in all, we would not recommend it to anyone. I know I didn't cover it all, but that is the majority of it.
