Horrible experience

Great experience inside the hotel. The outside is a little different, as you have the feeling you are not safe. Sketchy and shady.

The Staff - especially Chaltine who was particularly helpful and full of practical advice - were good, the room was spacious, the property itself was clean and well-maintained, the location - 10 minutes walk from Brussels Midi Station was most convenient. However, the local area looked like Edinburgh or Birmingham during their respective bin-strikes. Only a few of the local cafes/restaurants sold alcohol. Those that did were of quality and/or value for money establishments.

We booked the Superior Quadruple Room at the Urban Yard Hotel after a last minute cancellation by another hotel (inn). We arrived from Amsterdam at the Brussels Midi Train Station. It is a 10 minute walk. However, major roadworks were ongoing in the area which made it a bit confusing to navigate to the hotel. The road is not that easy to maneuver with kids and the bags, and through a small sketchy place that we would not recommend early or late night. You can however take a short taxi ride or more affordable tram from Zuidstation to Lemonnier (no lifts here though so will have to carry bags up/down the stairs). Once you stepped into the hotel it was like a totally different vibe! The room was clean and spacious with all the basic amenities. There was some fair going on so there was street noise but the room is sound proof and we slept well. Breakfast is okay. It is the same menu everyday but the service area is very small. There were many guests and at breakfast time it seemed to be uncomfortable/ congested with guests and staff all walking into each other! They did pack us a breakfast box-to-go on the day of checkout as we had an early train out of Belgium. + Laundermat within walking distance. Local supermarket and coffee shops close by. Great value for money.

Had it not been for the terrible location, this would have been a good hotel. Tasteful decor, spotless room, helpful staff. We had no outlook from our room; the breakfast was mediocre - who eats tinned fruit cocktail in 2025? BUT it is metres away from a social security office. As we approached from the railway station on Sunday afternoon, the area became increasingly dirty, with rubbish piled up on the streets. There were very few people around, apart from drunks and drug addicts, one of whom was comatose and being attended to by street pastors. We were very alarmed. Reception staff assured us that it was safe to go out to eat, but we were very nervous. The surrounding area was still filthy when we left on Tuesday. We saw no police presence. It was a sorry sight to look out over rough sleepers literally outside the breakfast room window.

The propery inside surprised me considering the local area walking up from Midi/Zuid. Inside it is very clean, modern, new and well decorated. My room was excellent and the bed comfortable, bathroom very good. The staff were helpful. Very good value for money and much better than expected.

The hotel is beautifully presented. Good sized, comfy rooms & great bathrooms. Room had a coffee making machine but no milk & one creamer. When we asked for more we were told they had run out of milk. On the second day we asked for more coffee pods but there was still no milk. On the 3rd day we were told we had to pay for replacements when we questioned this they said the first day was just like a welcome gift. Maybe if you don’t decline the daily turn down service like we did you may get these refilled. The rubbish outside is a shame & security on the door a little unsettling when you arrive.
