We stayed at the Four Seasons Maui because it was the hotel featured in Season 1 of White Lotus and we were able to go on the White Lotus tour by Tracy. If you’re a fan, the tour is a must-do—it provides an insider look at filming during Covid, behind-the-scenes details, and shows where the main scenes were shot (top of the staircase, lobby bar, Ferraro for bar and restaurant scenes, the adult and fountain pools, and the left-side beach). Note: the tour may end by the end of the year due to HBO licensing.
Our four-night stay started a bit bumpy. Check-in at 2:45 pm had a 10-person line reminiscent of Las Vegas hotels, and our room wasn’t ready until about 3:15 pm. However, the hotel quickly smoothed things over: we received a credit for the delay, along with a bottle of champagne and a rose for our anniversary, which was a very thoughtful touch.
Room:
Room 620 had a large living area, open bedroom, and a balcony with a couch, chair, and table. The view overlooked a large grassy area, with the ocean and sunset in the distance. The bathroom had a double sink, bathtub, shower, and toilet in a separate room, and a lighted make-up mirror plus a six-drawer dresser that was very convenient for toiletries. Outside the bathroom was a bar area with a Nespresso coffee maker, tea kettle, and refrigerator. Four aluminum bottles of Four Seasons water were provided (refillable at hotel water stations), and the turn-down service included smaller bottles by the bed. Slippers were provided but only in Large and Small sizes, so they didn’t fit medium-sized feet. Robes were hung in the bathroom.
Pools & Beach:
There are three main pools:
1. Fountain/family pool with two hot tubs
2. Smaller Waterfall pool
3. Adult pool with swim-up bar, infinity edge, and hot tub
Cabanas are available for reservation—adult pool cabanas are $1,000, and reserving some chairs is $100. Lounge chairs open at 7:00 am, and we were able to secure chairs at 7:30 - 7:40 am. Otherwise, there’s a waitlist or beach option. The beach area is a good size with umbrellas available for free.
Activities & Cultural Events:
- Saturday/Sunday: Fire Knife Dancer at 6:30 pm
- Monday: Behind the Scenes of Hula (6:30–8:30 pm) with Hālau o Ka Hanu Lehua, one of Hawaii’s top hula groups
Daily participatory classes: Lei Making (9 am), Coconut Frond Weaving (11 am), and Hula (1 pm in the lobby)
Outrigger Canoe paddling (early reservation required). Other activities included yoga and pickleball.
Service & Special Touches:
The staff made our anniversary stay special: the manager from Duo visited us during breakfast, and Nick, our waiter at Ferraro’s, went above and beyond with happy anniversary wishes and a special dessert. The post-check-in champagne and rose were a lovely gesture.
Departure:
We had a late 11:00 pm flight, and the hotel accommodated us with late check-out and access to the Aloha Hospitality Suite, which included showers, lockers, and a lounge area with coffee, Nespresso, and TV.
Things I Loved:
- The White Lotus tour by Tracy. He has inside knowledge since he was onsite for the entire filming.
- "Behind the Scenes of Hula" on the pa. I loved it was authentic hula and not just made for tourist entertainment.
- The hula class and Candy, the instructor
- The Aloha hospitality suite for a shower and place to change before catching a plane
- The staff - everyone was genuinely helpful and gracious
- The free transportation to the Shops at Wailea - more convenient than using our car
- The extra personal touches for our anniversary
- The insulated water pitcher at the Adult pool for cold water all day
Areas for improvement:
- More free chairs and umbrellas. It would be nice to have a leisurely breakfast and not worry whether you can get chair
- More staff for check-in
- More Outrigger Canoe openings
Overall, despite the initial check-in hiccup, the Four Seasons Maui delivered an exceptional stay with spacious, well-appointed rooms, attentive staff, beautiful pools, and immersive cultural experiences. Perfect for both White Lotus fans and anyone seeking a luxurious, relaxing Hawaiian escape.
