Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa

Another great stay at the Waikoloa Marriott. This is my 7th stay at the resort and it continues to deliver every time. Had a beautiful ocean front room overlooking the pools. Housekeeping was fantastic and we never saw them the whole week. Not sure how they know when we are out of the room, but it seemed like every time we left the room we would come back and it would have been cleaned. Very nice touch. The grounds and beach were in great shape. One day there was a monk seal that decided to spend the day at the Marriott beach. We had never seen that before. We love the infinity pool and hot tub. We even went down the water slide a few times. The slide is great for the kiddos. Plenty of palapas next to the pools for shade and it is nice to not have to get up before dawn to get one. There were still palapas available until about 8:00 am most days. The on site restaurant was being remodeled during our stay, but they did a nice job of temporarily relocating the restaurant to the check in level. Probably even a better view than before. The breakfast buffet was very good and we loved taco Tuesday. The resort is easy walking distance to the Kings and Queens shops with lots of great restaurants and shops. All of the employees front the front desk to the restaurant and the pool are very nice and professional. A special call out for Kristy Walsh with the pre-arrival team who always does a great job in recognizing and taking care of guests. We got incredibly lucky and were there when episode 48 at Kīlauea happened and seeing a 600 foot high lava fountain was a once in a lifetime experience. Can’t wait until the next time we return.

We just spent 5 nights using reward points at this property. My kids loved the slides and pools. Property is well maintained and proximity to A-bay is a huge plus. Though I would stay here again a few problems I had: - the rooms are small and not set up well for families. When you turn on the bathroom light there is a see through wall that illuminates the whole hotel room, so if kids are using the bathroom at night it's impossible to turn lights off. - I am a gold member and didn't feel like the hotel treated status members like I am at most Marriott properties. On checking in they told me no upgrades were available, but when I asked how that was possible when I checked prior to arrival and there was a multitude of rooms at different levels (ie nothing crazy like pool/ partial ocean view). She kept telling me no, until I pulled it up and it appeared the reasoning is she didn't want to move around what was already assigned. They did eventually give me a upgrade to a partial view - we just had to wait about an hour which was fine by us. Room and view was great. We had a similar situation at checkout. I have never been told no for a late checkout request (when again we confirmed the hotel wasn't sold in that room level the next day). I was multiple times denied a late checkout because they already had the room assignments done, but again after some dialogue they accommodated 1:30, but not the typical 2pm for gold members. It seemed to me the front desk didn't want to do any moving of prior assignments to accommodate status members. -Pool service was very slow. If you wanted food/drinks it was worth going to the stand versus waiting. -Their main restaurant was closed for renovations, which I couldn't find anything posted on websites anywhere. Also all drinks stop selling at 7 pm , which seemed early for Hawai'i. Other than that- great trip. Seems like staff doesn't go above and beyond and communication not super but nice for the price point.

I was actually surprised at how much we loved this resort. Have been coming to Waikoloa Beach for 25 years and had never stayed at this property. We had an amazing time. First the hotel. The rooms were comfortable and clean. Really all you want in a hotel room since you are in Hawaii and should be outside. The thing that made this hotel shine was really the location. You can walk out to the pools or continue on to the ocean. The ocean is more about lounging than exploring as the aren't that many fish to see, there are few waves and you wade in beyond your waist and the ocean is pretty rocky. But what a great place to relax. Another cool feature is that you can walk from the hotel along the ocean to the Lava Lava Beach Club for dinner or walk right across the street to a shopping center and restaurants. It is so convenient in that respect. The tennis courts were nice and it always seemed like there were enough chairs to lounge around. The fitness center was able average with free weights and several machines. If we go back to the Big Island we would definitely return.

There are certain people you meet in hospitality who completely change the way you experience a place, and Uncle George is one of those rare people. During my birthday stay at the Marriott, Uncle George made us feel so genuinely welcomed, cared for, and special in a way that is hard to even put into words. He is truly the definition of aloha. The warmth, kindness, generosity, and light he carries are something you feel immediately the moment you meet him. In a world where true hospitality can sometimes feel rushed or transactional, he was a breath of fresh air. He made us feel seen, appreciated, and at home. Every interaction with him came from such a genuine place of care and kindness, and it completely transformed our experience into something deeply memorable that I will carry with me for a very long time. The Marriott is incredibly fortunate to have someone like Uncle George representing their team and the spirit of Hawaiʻi. He does not just provide service. He creates connection, joy, comfort, and unforgettable memories for people. Thank you, Uncle George, for making my birthday so meaningful and special. Two years ago, we stayed at the Wailea Beach Resort in Maui, and I was careful not to expect the same experience, knowing this was a smaller property with fewer amenities. With that noted, even though this was a different experience, we had just as much fun. First and foremost, the staff was incredible. I responded to their pre-arrival email, noting that we were celebrating my daughter's high school graduation and that Kristry Walsh, the Pre-arrival Ambassador, had written her a really thoughtful card, which she sent along with a tasty snack. It meant a lot to my daughter and was special for the whole family. The front desk staff, concierge, restaurant staff, and pool staff were all terrific. George (I think that was his name), in the pool cabana, took time to enthusiastically answer my questions about Hawaiian culture and history. The property's historical elements, particularly the fish ponds, petroglyphs, and ruins, were really cool. We found the property very laid-back. Even though it was spring break, we never had a problem finding pool chairs and felt comfortable bringing outside meals from the nearby Island Gourmet Market to eat in the common areas. Despite it being a shared property with a Marriott Vacations Club, we never got a hard timeshare sell (which would have been a massive turn-off). The room was very clean and recently remodeled. If you're considering the Waikoloa area, I couldn't recommend this resort more. We did ride some of the hotel bikes over to the Hilton, and despite the Marriott being much smaller, I wouldn't have traded experiences for the world. Here are a few tips: -Take advantage of the bike rentals. There's lots to see in the area. -If you Uber in, know that there is an on-site car rental. We rented a Jeep for a day and downloaded the Kohala Coast Backcountry Tour on the Shaka Guide App and toured the Big Island. -The nearby Island Gourmet Market has meals you can take to-go and a Dole Whip machine!

Really nice beach - good location- close to small shops. Nice pools - clean. Hottubs were really hot.

Extremely poor eating possibilities at the hotel - one restaurant - very simple menu with most unhealthy choices. For an adult to eat „healthy“ you could order only poke with fresh fish . The breakfast was a disaster - 50usd person plus 20% gratitude - poor choice of meals plus the first day- we got served rotten food ( strawberries that were obviously bad but served anyways, already green bagel, and old cereals- I was so shocked I did not even take picture- but told the waiter right away- did not help much but I complained about it at the reception - after the complain at the reception they took it from our bill at the end) we never ate there again- went to other shops and restaurants in neighborhood. As well only one place to get real coffee in the hotel - opened till 14.00 but closed when we came at 13.30;(((( The hallway was not kept clean ( door on room next to ours stayed stained for days, halls were not vacuumed regularly- there were obvious dirts- not what one expects form Marriott) The beach is wonderful though. We saw turtle on the beach- it is shallow and nice for kids - as it is sandy. Yet to rent a place to lay on 70USD for four hours. ;)

We had an amazing stay! The property was absolutely pristine and beautifully maintained. The location couldn’t have been better—everything we needed, including great shopping, was within walking distance. A special shoutout to Jacob at the front desk, who was incredibly friendly and welcoming. His passion for Hawaii really stood out, and he shared some fascinating local insights that made our stay even more memorable. Maria at breakfast was equally wonderful—her customer service was truly spectacular, and she made every morning feel warm and inviting. We stayed on the 6th floor with Oceanview, and it was gorgeous. The room is spacious and clean, and super comfortable. Highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay again!
