The Hotel Windsor

We loved the grandeur of the Windsor. The grand staircase and airy foyers were original, decorated with furnishings and artworks of the period, and very beautiful. The rooms were lofty but warm (it was cold outside!) with original architectural and design details from the 1800's. The bed was very comfortable and the staff helpful. We ate a delicious and surprisingly inexpensive meal in the hotel downstairs - real pub prices. Our view from the second floor looking straight across to Parliament House, was wonderful and after 10;30 pm, there was very little external street noise. All in all, we had a very good experience.

The bathroom in particular, though very clean, was tired, not quite up to scratch and could have done with a fixtures update. The windows looking out on our fabulous view could have done with a clean - their antiquity and view deserved that! I suspect the famous patrons who stay here are given rooms more recently renovated.

Gorgeous grand old lady! Room felt like I was in France. Great location close to where we needed to be.

Old school charm and friendly staff.

Theres something quite wonderful about the Windsor, its history, its presence, its style. I had the luck of being in a Junior Suite and the suite was so vast and grand and felt like I was part of an era gone by. The breakfast room is beautiful and the hallways and entrance lobby remind of you of what life used to be like, before we all got so modern and self-obsessed. The Windsor is history, and Im a big fan.

For something's you have to make a compromise, the bathrooms were less modern than you'd expect - but I thought about how on earth you would renovate such a hotel, and you just move on and get on with your stay.
