Waterfront Hotel, part of JdV by Hyatt

I was worried because I’ve heard how bad Oakland has gotten . We booked the room with balcony overlooking the marina and I would go many times over. There was easy access to restaurants, ice cream and a cool little place called the Fat Lady. My favorite part was sitting on the balcony. We walked to get ice cream after 10 pm and we felt safe in the area and staff were very nice . The hotel is dated but nice, and honestly , the view made you forget about it. I would 100% recommend!

Great spot to stay and catch the ferry over to a giants game.

The check in process was fraught with issues and multiple attempts to get my credit card in their system. The hotel advertises a coffee cafe, but it no longer exists. No notice, and it felt deceptive as it shows it is available on their website, internal literature and on the TV info. Pool condition is poor. Pool felt slimy. The valet service is poorly understaffed. I waited over a half and hour to repark my car after my first night. The hotel staff tried, but overall a very disappointing experience. I will not return to this hotel.

Find a different hotel and take a Uber/Lyft/Public Transit to Jack London Square. The hotel charges an extra $25 fee on top of their existing rate. It is advertised to offer several discounts and promotions, but nothing is mentioned when you are there. The room was very basic. The shower was for a midget. I am 5'5" and I had to duck to get under the spray of the showerhead. Bed was ok. Nothing spectacular. Wall decor was worn in some places inside the room. Some of the rooms have a balcony, but not all. If you look the balcony over- most of the chairs are all different. Paint is peeling in places. Pool umbrellas are covered in bird waste. Only one homeless guy I noticed huddled in for the night on the waterway nearby. The charm is in the area- Jack London Square. show up for an afternoon, stroll the boats, take in a meal, and make sure you stop into the First & Last Chance Saloon (If kids are not along.) Most of the other travelers I saw were business/ forced to stay here for work. $40 Valet parking included the driver moving the car maybe 50 feet down toward their East entrance. Not the friendliest area of town. We got to the bbq place at 7:30 when it closes at 8pm. It was PACKED. We were turned away for indoor dining. Offered takeout. I would not advise to walk through this area of town at night.

The hotel was very clean. No vending machines so that was a bummer. I like to have bottle water close by. The hotel charges $4 for a 16oz that’s in your room but it’s not cold. It may be for the little sad coffee that is “complimentary” but not really if you are being charged for the water. The location is great! So many restaurants at the Jack London square and most importantly, a coffee shop that opens at 6am!

My favorite hotel to stay at when I’m in the bay area. Right by the water with beautiful views. Right across from Yoshis live music club. Parking is a bit expensive so cheaper to Uber. Front desk service is always friendly. Rooms are maintained well. Could use a bit of a remodel, but still very comfortable. I hope that the Jack London Square area rebounds after Covid really diminished the area.
