"Harrowing ordeal at the Jug and Glass Matlock."

2.0

I cannot express the horrific news of my two brushes with this establishment. I am a well dressed barrister. I arrived asking for a room for the week. I had been severely assaulted and had a complex fracture to my leg. I was given the second floor room. I ordered wine and the bar lady carried it to me room. I asked for another glass. The bar lady refused saying no alcohol was allowed in the room. I had crawled on my belly up the two flights of stairs. I crawled back down and sat at the bar. It was 11pm sharp. The quiz night had just finished. The blonde middle aged manageress with pink tips to her hair was unfriendly , knowing I had crawled down the stairs for a drink and some food, refused me service other than a packet of pork scratchings. The bar was full and people socialising and drinking. I crawled back upstairs and wrote a scathing review. The next day I crawled back down ordered a steak and a glass of Shiraz. I put my foot up on the bench and lay down for a bit as I waited. The establishment is far from five star. A man leaned over and told me to sit up. I asked him who he thought he was. He said the owner. I advised that he must have read my review. As I was exhausted and needed the room I wrote a positive review and showed him. He muttered in reply. I left the next day for the fracture clinic in London. Returned ( inadvertently) I thought I was going to a different establishment a few days later and was refused a room by the manageress. This was late at night. When I lost it she threw me out into the night threatening to call the police. Nice one Jug and Glass. Do not darken the doors of this cruel establishment run by cruel human beings.

Amazing place! Super nice atmosphere and friendly people. We really enjoyed our stay and definitely would recommend it, even if you do not stay overnight, please, stop for a meal and drink. We had the slow cooked beef ❤️ and it was exceptional. So well seasoned and tasty. We will definitely return to this lovely place. :)

Nothing 🤷

"Limited menu"

6.0

It is a limited menu on a sunday, just 2 vegetarian options, a curry or a risotto. I opted for curry, it was ok, filled a hole. Hubby had pie which he said was good. We had cheesecake for dessert which was reasonably priced and very nice. Staff were friendly. Dog friendly too, always a bonus.

There was little or no noise from the pub. The only noise near my room was other guests arriving and departing. Parking was no problem. Staff were very pleasant and, due to them, I was able to get my head down in good time as I had been up all the previous night. This was followed by a very sound night's sleep. Breakfast was perfectly adequate for me (cereal and toast). The evening meal I had booked was again perfectly satisfactory. For my one night's stay, the experience was fine.

Warm welcome with lovely staff who never seemed to sleep(!) but always served with a smile. The menu had a good selection of dishes. Thoroughly enjoyed the homemade food which was tasty and generous in portion size. The spiced plum crumble was amazing and we were told they were homegrown plums! The room was lovely and exactly what we wanted. Everything was clean and neat. We loved our stay and would happily return. Highly recommended.
