"No where to sit in a mostly empty pub"

6.0

Called in for what would have been a couple of drinks but seeing that all the empty tables were reserved we asked if we could sit at one for as long as 2 drinks take. Apparently though all were due to be sat at within the next 15 minutes. Fair enough if that were the case but as we sat outside slightly chilly the only people that arrived ended up sitting outside as well so all those bookings must not have turned up. Silly attitude in my opinion.

Owners and staff were welcoming and the room was spacious, full facilities, warm. Approx 9 miles from Buxton, a rural but convenient for access. Adjacent to a main road, but no disturbances for sleep with the rooms to the rear of the pub. Enjoyed the well presented food. Lovely fish & chips. Slight issue over lasagne, quickly remedied/replaced. Excellent cooked breakfast. Good quality ingredients. Very good value, would recommend and probably return if in area again.

"Good find"

10.0

We stayed here using a voucher for a dog friendly stay and couldn’t have asked for more. The room was nice and cosy - plenty of room for us to put a large dog bed in too. The staff were very attentive and friendly too and couldn’t do more for us. Breakfast was served so quickly yet everything was cooked to perfection. I decided to swap a few things and this wasn’t a problem at all. The location is ideal for discovering places near by such as the Dovedale stepping stones and there’s a town not far away at all if you wanted to get food etc. We will definitely be back soon.

"Lovely Sunday lunch"

10.0

Visited for a Sunday lunch on 29th December 2024. Owner and staff were welcoming and attentive. We had a roast pork dinner, very tender and tasty, the vegetables were perfectly cooked, as were the potatoes. Prices are very reasonable. We have visited a few times before, and it's always the same excellent standard. You won't find a better Sunday lunch if you're having a day out in this area.
