Cabanas chaac Calakmul

The host was giving me some good advice on how to get to Calakmul.

The room felt like a prison cell, no window, bed has a solid concrete foundation! It was swarming with mosquitos because it had big gaps all over and as soon as you turn the light on (Which you always had to because there is no window), they came in through every crack. I had to hide under the mosquito net all the time just brushing your teeth gets you eaten by them. The surrounding is really noisy with lots of roosters and dogs making noise all night. I was charged more than booking.com announced, because they charged the commission back to me, which increased the price by about 15% (I objected but my Spanish was not well enough for that argument) I have stayed in a few low budget places in Mexico and other countries, but this was the most unpleasant so far.

Great location, price and helpful staff. Hear it would be very noisy but wasn't worse than anywhere else we had stayed.

Shower head not working. Had to use the pipe to have a shower.

I hate giving bad reviews but there is nothing positive I can say about this accommodation ☹️

This was by far the dirtiest and least comfortable accommodation I have ever stayed in. The pictures make it look like a simple accommodation located in nature, but it is nothing like that. It is in the middle of the town, surrounded by lots of trash, dead cockroaches are under the bed, stains everywhere. Our room was next to the “reception” - a room filled with even more trash, noisy till late at night. The bathroom has not seen a cleaning product in ages. Half of the description is not true - wifi, parking, etc. I am all for simple, but to me the website and the advertisements seem just deceiving.

Location and a store in front of the cabañas

Lots of trash my room wasn’t ready and nobody told me when it was ready I had to go and keep checking could not find anybody in the office to help me with questions the things they have for the mosquitoes don’t work and it’s really noisy at night on the pic the outside looks clean but when we got there it wasn’t

The communication was horrible. We noted that we would arrive later (our bus even broke down). And they said that they would leave a key and a picture with some info, after asking 2 times for the picture, and them saying they will send it, we did not receive said picture. So there we were in the middle of the night with no clue where to go. At last we found a key but the door it was in would not open so we tried all the doors, none opened. We tried calling and knocking on the door of the reception, no answer. After an hour of trying we managed to open the door the key was in but it was a very strained lock. We also asked them if we could leave our bagage since we were going to Calakmul in the morning and they said to leave it at the reception. And of course the reception was not open when we had to go (they knew when we’d have to leave since they arranged the transport). So we left it in the room hoping it would be okay. When we came back from the tour we found our bags indeed at the reception, but they put it on the dirty ground and one of them was COMPLETELY covered in bugs. We asked for a trash bag so we could try and suffocate the bugs which they gave us, but no help whatsoever with trying to fix the problem. We paid the full amount for only 2 hours of sleep and a whole bunch of stress. I also want to note that we are backpackers who have traveled for months and stayed in very questionable accommodation, but this was one of the worst experiences we’ve had.

The room was basic but very clean and comfortable. The owner helped us organize our trip to Calakmul and was really helpful as we arrived very late by bus (around midnight). Best price in town. Perfect for a night, probably not for a longer stay
