Just stayed for the second time at the Barnes. Left feeling even more enthused about returning for another weekend getaway when needed. Marella was at the reception and made our stay start off very warm and her customer service skills were very impressive. We requested a street facing room and she accommodated us even though it posed a challenge that day due to high occupancy and our early check in. I enjoy street facing rooms because i personally enjoy the cool sights and sounds of being right on a Powell Street, including the street car. It’s like hearing the cities heartbeat playing. If you prefer something more tranquil, there are courtyard facing rooms. I was surprised to see a fully equipped fitness center on the second floor right outside the elevator to satisfy your cardio or weight training regime, since i didn’t see much photos posted. We also tried the continental breakfast upgrade that was delicious. It included fresh juice, little cupcake size omelets, fresh fruits, Greek yogurt cups, and other items. Overall a very pleasant experience, and will definitely recommend

Customer service was perfect! Marcella was super helpful and made our experience of checking in so smooth. The room itself was decent, nothing worked in terms of appliances. Including the wall plugs, the ac, and the mini fridge.

This hotel is a disaster. I am guessing the only good reviews are either the fake 1 contribution types or those who primarily stay at budget hotels and are wow'ed by the location. I have 3 nights booked. This is night 2. The heat does NOT work, and it's freezing in the room. They have a fake thermostat that the maintenance guy says isn't hooked up to anything. Their old school fan doesn't heat up much and is ridiculously loud. I'm wearing three layers and a hoodie to bed. There is a horrid musty smell throughout the hotel. It is extremely noisy in the room with constant clamor from cable cars, police sirens, and crowd gatherers. There is also quite a bit of noise from adjacent rooms and in the bathroom as you can hear the room above taking showers and flushing the toilet. The carpet is dated/worn. Also, the hallway has broken subflooring as there are actual depressions/cavities in the hallway flooring. That said, there are some positives. The bathroom, aside from the toilet, has a modern look and feels relatively recently updated. The room we have is not large but definitely larger than most San Francisco hotels in or near Union Square. The location is amazing, one block from Union Square and 2 blocks from BART. It is the only reason we haven't checked out. They also have decent product on the shower. No bar soap on the vanity so I had to use the shower body wash to wash my hands. Given the positives, I'd have given them 2 stars due to the location alone. But I just saw my credit card was charged for way more than what I booked the room for. The hassle now to get the room charge correct is a 1 star deduction in my book..

Stayed 2 + 5 nights here as it’s convenient. The first two nights was alright but the room came with a bathtub which was dangerous to bathe my child. So for the separate 5 nights, I have requested for a room with shower. The guy who checked me in didnt bother and gave me a room with bathtub again. Went back to the front desk and I’m so lucky to have Julia there. She made the effort to look through the hotel map to find a double queen bed room with shower. She even brought me to check the room out. Impeccable service! If the hotel management is reading this review, Julia deserves a raise! There’s front desk guy who was really friendly to my child, didn’t catch his name but he’s the one with curly hair. Julia and this front desk guy made our stay a wonderful one.
