Kabuki Mt Buller

Location is far down the road from the village centre but the village buses run often enough and stops are well located to get to Kabuki with all your ski gear. Easy enough walk or bus ride at night. The walk to and from the village is not steep like accommodation higher up in the village.

The app based door access system was a bit clunky at times leaving me locked out at 1 stage but the staff response was reasonably prompt given I was not running late for anything. Requires thought to move gear in and out and make sure the phone is on you at all times. For instance if you left your room to go downstairs to the drying room and your phone was still in your room you might get locked out unless someone else was in your room to let you back in.

The property is beautiful: new, stylish, warm and quiet. The beds were comfortable with nice white crisp sheets. The location is good. A couple of times we gave up waiting for the shuttle bus and we could easily walk in 10 mins or less (more easily without ski boots) to the village or home from a restaurant.

The communal lounge room with one two seater and one other chair is a bit compact and non convivial for the number of guests. Once one person is sitting there, it’s a bit awkward to join them. Another two seater would solve the problem and transform the atmosphere. The bedroom/bathroom is compact, too but we didn’t mind because it was so clean and new, cute and cosy. There was a bench to stow our stuff and a rack of hooks to hang clothes. A hook behind the door would be a welcome addition. There was a slight sewage smell coming from our bathroom when we arrived but it seemed to resolve. The heated towel rail in the bathroom wasn’t working. But the room was otherwise nice and warm and there was a drying room downstairs for our wet gear. The electronic key entry was ok because we followed the instructions before arriving. But we were stressed about whether we would have enough phone battery by the end of the day’s skiing to gain access. Similarly, on checkout, we checked out of our room early and stowed our gear in the drying room when we went out to ski. But our access to the lodge was cut off with checkout. We just had to rely on luck that someone let us in at the end of the day to collect our gear. We had asked for early access to the lodge on arrival to stow our gear in the laundry/drying room while we skied but forgot to request extended access to the lodge on our departure day. Management offers to respond to queries or issues within 48 hours but our stay was only for 1 night, so we didn’t raise any requests for assistance.

The communal area was nice

Bed sheets had nasty stains all over… Went in and didn’t supply toilet paper. There is no receptionist so only contact is via phone. When asked for some TP, was asked to go outside to the other side of the building to get the TP
