Beijing New Century Hotel

Nice location with the beautiful bamboo park and the zoo just across the road. The 40 sqm room felt spacious and the staff was helpful and friendly, the room was nicely cleaned. The hotel is named New Century but really it feels like stepping into the previous century, it's time to refurbish the rooms. The lobby looks nice though. From time to time there was smell of smoking in the room, not terrible but not very pleasent either. Unsure where it came from. Like many other places in Beijing not all members of the staff speak English. We did not try the breakfast or restaurants at the hotel. There is a Starbucks in the next building with decent sandwiches which is where we had breakfast instead.

After a second try to change to a better room, staff let us stay in a much better room, it was very good, much cleaner and a lot more spacious.

When requesting for a room change, the staff first put me in a room that is supposed to be an upgrade but it was very dark and small, the shower was unclean. The standard was not on par at all.

Good old school capital hotel.
