Callaway Resort & Gardens

My family and I just spent one week at Callaway Resort and Gardens. If you are planning a stay there, I encourage you to read this review. We booked 2 four bedroom “deluxe” villas for a week and 1 two bedroom “deluxe” villa for four nights. I am going to focus this review on the 4 bedroom Deluxe Villa #1081. The villa did not have any ice. The refrig did not have an ice maker and there were 2 counter top icemakers that did not work. Maintenance was clueless on why there was not an icemaker in the freezer or how to repair the counter top icemaker. The kitchen for the 4 BR villa was 4 ft x 5ft. The refrig extended out from cabinets by about 8 inches, reducing the 4 ft. Two people could barely fit in at the same time. There were two drawers in the kitchen. The drawers would not fully extend because they would hit the stove. I have attached picture. The silverware was in the top cabinet. The kitchen did not have an oven mitt or pot holder. It did not have a cloth to wash a dish or wipe down the counter just one drying cloth. The dining chairs felt like you were sitting on top of a wooden pole. The cost for this Villa #1081 for a week was $5,827.68. Most people would expect there to be ice included and a fully equipped kitchen to have drawers that open and basic kitchen supplies. This one lacked those things and more. One of the other villas we rented did not have ice either. Callaway does not include photos of the villas on their booking site. Currently, Callaway has a pending charge on my credit card for approximately $2,000 even though they have billed the full amount of our stay on the credit card five days ago. They are telling me that they cannot remove the pending charge. The credit card company says that the only way a pending charge can be removed is for the merchant (Callaway) to remove it. This is just some of the highlights of our stay. If you decide to take the risk, I hope your experience is much better than this.

I visited 6 years ago(2019), I enjoyed it then although I lodged on the older side (no longer in use). This time I stayed in the lodge spa area and Wow! This property has been renovated. The beach looks bigger, the amenities are better, the property received a facelift. Definitely coming back!

Overall we had a nice visit. Lots of things to do with kids. We enjoyed seeing deer on the property behind our cottage. The cottage could use a little updating/fresh coat of paint on the baseboards.

Bummed out that dinner buffet at piedmont restaurant was closed, had a negative experience with one of employees speeding on golf cart and almost hit us but otherwise good stay…

The property has really gone down hill since last time we were here.

Everything was spotless and comfortable. The service was top-notch, and the gardens, of course, were delightful!

Almost everything was closed due to rain when I visited the facility.

Of the two hot tubs one was closed even though when asked they said both were open. The pool and hot tubs had a very visible grim line at water level. The bed was lumpy with dips and raised areas.

We had a great time! The pools were amazing, the beach area is very nice, the organ music was great, and the butterflies are so cute!
