The Mission Inn Hotel and Spa

I was going to do a model train event at the SoCal Railway Museum in Perris, and rather than do a 90 minute to 2 hour drive back and forth to and between Anaheim and Perris due to bad traffic for 3 days in a row, I decided to stay near by. Nicest Hotel I can think of was the Mission Inn located in Riverside just 20 minutes away. First I was greeted by friendly staff, valet parking was nice, check in went smoothly and I was given keys to my room in the Old Section of the Hotel. Little did I know that I would get ABSOLUTELY NO internet service!!! And I needed internet service to do some stuff for work. I called the operator, they sent an IT specialist, he had no luck, I called the operator, and they tried rebooting my router, and no luck. I went back to front desk, and they were so kind as to relocate me to a larger room in the newer Spanish Section called a Glenwood Room on the second floor. This room was HUGE, it was STUNNING, and it overlooked the Spanish Courtyard. Best of all, I got my internet to work. The front desk was even so kind as to not charge me any additional fees for the room upgrade. I will say the bathrooms are dated and have seen better days, but I LOVED the shower and that the room I was in had a hand shower and I LOVED the stunning Spanish tiles on the bathroom floor. Bed was comfortable, area may have been a little noisy from foot traffic and conversations out in the Spanish Courtyard, but it was quieter than the old section which looks right out onto the street with heavy traffic noise from cars, Emergency vehicles and the freight trains. I can’t complain too much on noise from foot traffic in the Spanish Section compared to the Traffic you hear in the Old section. Now for the Hotel. It is CREEPY in the Old wing!!! If you want an experience of what it’s like staying at the Overlook Hotel from the Shining, then you get pretty close to that in the Old Wing on the third floor. It feels creepy, it looks creepy, the room doors are like that off castle towers and dungeons, and to top it off, it’s one of the most haunted hotels in America adding on more to the creepy vibe. But that adds to the excitement and the story of the hotel. There is so much to explore on this historic hotel, I couldn’t stop exploring. The Grand Staircase by front desk, the Creepy Old Wing, the Spanish Courtyard, the BEAUTIFUL 4th floor, the Chapel, the SUPER terrifying yet beautiful and iconic Spiraling Rotunda, the Historic Mission Bells, the old Clock that chimes every half hour, the flying buttresses, the old relics, and the beautiful fountains. One can really stay for over a week, and see and feel something new whenever they go out to explore this hotel. It may not be the most luxurious hotel I’ve stayed at, but it is one of the most interesting I’ve stayed and I can HIGHLY recommend it. However, just be aware that the bathrooms are old and a little outdated, the internet wifi doesn’t work in the Old Wing of the hotel, and if you want to stay in a quieter section, you’re best off in the newer Spanish Section overlooking the courtyard and not the old wing overlooking the street. However, if you’re fine without internet, and don’t mind the street noise, then the Rain Cross Rooms in the old wing of the hotel are pretty cool. However, I more recommend the Deluxe or Glenwood Rooms in the newer Spanish Central Courtyard section of the hotel. ;)

The hotel was beautiful, the room was roomy and the bed was really comfortable. Overall th staff was great - valet, check-in, dinner wait staff - all fabulous. One waitress at breakfast was too busy talking to others to even get us our coffee (after being seated for a while). She then got puffy when we asked for our coffees. Not cool.

Always have a good time at the Mission. the service was excellent and the atmosphere is incredible. I always feel relaxed at the Mission.
