"Very Good"

7.0

Restaurant, evening meal, room ok, staff ok.

Breakfast was only staffed by the chef? This is a change from my last visit. Chef said the 'other' staff had put the coffee pods somewhere he wasn't told? Breakfast wasn't the same quality ingredients as previous visits. I'm sad that I don't feel like returning to this establishment, it seems like changes have been made in order to cut corners (costs) 😞

"Strange"

The location was as expected close to the centre of Lampeter, parking was easy and free. Food when available was good, first night we arrived no chef was available dinning room closed, second morning no staff available could not access the main area of the hotel, no food or drink available.

Lack of staff and information, unable to contact staff when things went wrong. The bar area closed at 9.00pm

"Clean and comfortable for a night or two"

8.0

Comfortable bed and clean room for the weekend.

The dining room in the evening was out of all menu items except fish (one person can not eat) and £30 steak that was served cold. It feels like it trying to hard on the food side. Also the breakfast was different on both days, possibly due to stock issues or different staff each morning.

"Extremely poor conditions with damp, cleanliness issues and no heating, forcing us to leave early"

1.0

Nothing

We stayed at the Black Lion Royal Hotel in Lampeter in early April as a family with a young child and had to leave after one night due to extremely poor and concerning conditions. We have photographic evidence of everything described below. The room showed clear signs of damp and what appears to be mould growth in multiple areas, including: * On the walls near the bed where our child was sleeping * On the curtains * Inside the wardrobe There was visible staining on the curtains (including a brown stain), and the curtain itself was partially hanging off the rail. The walls were dirty, marked, and in places appeared damaged, particularly around the window area where there were signs consistent with damp. The bathroom hygiene was unacceptable. The anti-slip mat was visibly dirty underneath, with a build-up of grime. Cutlery provided in the room was not clean. The room was extremely cold throughout our stay, with heating not functioning despite being raised with staff. When we returned later in the evening, it was still freezing. There was also a strong unpleasant smell in the reception area, similar to drains or sewage. I personally experienced immediate irritation (itchy eyes and skin) upon entering the room, which raises concerns about air quality. Breakfast was advertised as a hot breakfast with options, but in reality only very basic items were available (stale cereal and bread), which did not match what was advertised. There were no suitable options for dietary requirements. We would like to note that the staff we interacted with were polite, but they did not appear to have the authority to address the issues. When concerns were escalated, the response from management was dismissive and no attempt was made to resolve the situation. Due to the condition of the room and health concerns, we had no choice but to leave and book alternative accommodation at our own expense. We will be uploading photographs to support this review.

"Friendly hotel."

8.0

Great location Friendly staff Great breakfast Large Comfortable bed

The bed was against the wall meaning I had to either climb over the other person or clamber from the bottom. Not ideal. I checked before I left and this is not true of all rooms so this can be avoided if you query it.

"Great Hotel Great Value!"

9.0

## A Gem on the High Street: Fantastic Stay at The Black Lion Hotel I recently had a wonderful stay at **The Black Lion Hotel** and can’t recommend it enough! Located right on the main high street, it’s perfectly situated for exploring the area. ### Exceptional Service A massive thank you to **Sarah**, who was absolutely brilliant throughout my stay. Nothing was too much trouble for her. I even witnessed her dealing with some particularly fussy guests, and she remained incredibly calm, professional, and helpful. She is a real credit to the team! ### The Room I booked a **twin room** and was very impressed: * **Comfort:** The beds were lovely and cozy—I had a great night's sleep. * **Amenities:** The room was a good size and well-equipped with a bedside cabinet, wardrobe, chair, and a TV. * **Thoughtful Touches:** I really appreciated the hospitality tray featuring tea, coffee, and (most importantly!) **fresh milk**, along with free cans of water. * **Bathroom:** clean with fluffy towels and complimentary toiletries. ### Atmosphere & Entertainment The bar area has a great vibe. It’s equipped with a **pool table, dartboard, and various games**, making it a fun spot to hang out. Plus, the locals are super friendly, which made me feel right at home. ### Dining The food was a major highlight of the trip: * **Dinner:** Simply amazing. The portions were huge and the quality was top-notch. A huge **"well done" to the Chef!** * **Breakfast:** A fantastic spread to start the day. There was a great selection of cereals, yogurts, toast, and fruit juices, followed by a delicious **Full English** and fresh coffee. **Verdict:** This hotel offers incredible **value for money**. If you’re looking for great food, comfortable rooms, and a warm welcome, look no further. I would definitely recommend staying here! Free car parking!
