Shell Island Resort - All Oceanfront Suites

Absolutely loved the view. Loved the 1/2 bath. Loved the table and the spaciousness. The bed was very comfortable. I would definitely stay here again. Location was great. The beach was absolutely beautiful and clean. Loved the fact that there were 2 pools. Wish there would have been a second hot tub.

Several of the light fixtures didn't work. Would have been nice to have teabags with our coffee service. It would have been nice to have at least 2 matching mugs and not melamine. I prefer a microwavable ceramic or porcelain mug. The couch upholstery needed cleaning. The rooms didn't have much of a soundbarrier. We were awaken by our neighbors arguing late in the night. The bathtub was very deep; which made it harder for an older short person to access.

No restaurant no bar

I have visited Shell Isand several times over the past 44 years, and sadly this was our last trip there. We stayed in room 708. I paid over $1200 for our week stay there over April break. When my daughter was loading her suitcase into the closet we both noticed a substantial amount of mold in the closet. Being a nurse at a major Boston hospital, and having a child with asthma, this was a major health concern. I called the front desk to report the issue and felt i should have been compensated because I could have stayed at way cleaner resorts for the money I paid. The man I spoke to, who also checked us in was completely non chalant and could honestly care less. He made me feel like I was nothing but a bother for calling. He said he would come up to inspect it and clean it. We gave him time as we went to the beach. When we got back we stalled time wise as we assumed someone was in the room still, as the door was left open. Nope, the door was left open to air out the smell of bleach in our bedroom, but also apparently so people could just enter our room and steal stuff. Luckily that did not happen though. The smell of bleach was extremely strong and likely sprayed the mold particles in the air. My daughter coughed the remainder of the trip. In addition to the mold issue, there was a huge unknown stain on one of the chairs, the shower non -stopped leaked and the shower head was beyond needing replacement and was spraying water everywhere. There was also no sponge to clean dishes and we had to use paper towels. The most disappointing area was that the front desk staff seemed to completely not care. About anything. I am not sure why you would be in the hospitality business if you dont care if people return to the resort. The real slap in the face was when I went to check out and was refunded $56.00 for the mold issue. I was told if I didnt book through travelocity it wouldn't be so difficult to get a refund. Yet when I called travelocity they said shell island was the one needing to refund since they debited the money on site. Travelocity even contacted shell island on my behalf to get more of a refund for me and they couldn't even bother to respond to them. You have a choice when you choose to travel. Don't choose Shell Island.
