"Worth the stretch"

8.0

The relaxed but sophisticated Cape Cod style is welcoming and refined. The South Lounge and Sacred Cod bar make it difficult to decide whether to enjoy a perfect cocktail with an amazing view of the water or in the cozy, warm, old-school, leathery bar that you just can't find anymore. Disappointing, but understandable, that the heated-outdoor pool and hot tub were unavailable. More disappointing, the indoor pool, in the spa, was also not available. Each breakfast was perfectly prepared and very generously portioned. The breakfast buffet looked stunning in quality and variety but I would have over-eaten. The dinner at Sacred Cod was also generously portioned but not as tasty as breakfast. They were out of oysters and the fried chicken was oozing oil. Because the chicken cutlet is dropped in a fryer, rather than pressed between baskets or shallow pan-fried, it arrive curled-up and on and overly thick, enormous (but excellently baked) sesame roll. It was impressive looking for sure, but un-bite-able at around 5" thick. The fries were also soggy and limp with oil. The lobster taco app was exceptional but the corn shells kind of over-power the subtle, delicate and perfectly cooked lobster. I'd still get them every time. The Swordfish was hammered and warm-cool giving it the texture of piece hanging out the combi waiting to be ordered, but the nicely seasoned bean ragu it came with rehydrated a bit. We had one of the cottages, it was a lot of money but having an area to sit and read at night, without having to lay in bed, is great. The service for ice and throw-blankets and things out there is sluggish but to be expected because of the distance. I think having bags of ice available to grab, somewhere on the property, might be nice. There are some really thoughtful touches, like a fireplace in the bedroom, a porthole-inspired mirror and a scrimshaw-inspired shower handle. However, the shower curtain constantly blowing against you while showering is not pleasant (we tried fan on/off, door open/closed but nothing worked.) Housekeeping does an exceptional job keeping the cottage clean and welcoming. I hope $40 a night is a sufficient tip? Overall, it is expensive but, for us it is just about worth it. Just do not expect any posh extras like: free upgrades for repeat customers, complimentary use of the sauna or for everything to be open and available in the off-season. Even with a 12:30 spa appointment, the latest check-out we could get was 12:30.

"Not what I was hopping for"

2.0

I brought my partner for a romantic spa birthday night. The bed was incredibly hard, the pillows were not comfortable, the room seemed like it could use an upgrade. We had a spa treatment the next morning. After sitting in the quiet room for 45 min I found an employee to find out why my treatment hadnt started yet and it seemed that the person doing my espresso scrub didnt read her schedule right and wasn't on site. Yes they gave me a discount but I still waited over an hour for a scheduled treatment. It was very unprofessional. Plus I was checked in and the front desk didn't know I was waiting. I had to go looking for someone to help me. Not very relaxing.

"Weekend getaway"

8.0

We were very disappointed with the Champagne Brunch on Saturday. Considering the price paid, the experience did not meet expectations. Upon arrival, no drink ticket or information about the champagne service was provided when checking in with the host, who unfortunately was not very helpful. Each guest was supposed to receive one glass of champagne, but we had to retrieve it ourselves at the bar and even had to negotiate with the bartender to receive it. There was essentially no service provided throughout the brunch—no one checked on the table and dishes were not cleared. The food quality was also underwhelming. Several items were cold, including the prime rib. The waffles and pancakes were dry, and the omelet station was very basic with nothing particularly special. The seafood selection consisted of only a small punch bowl with a few shrimp. For a property with a Forbes ranking, we expected a much more upscale selection, presentation, and level of service. When attending brunches in Boston or other major cities at hotels with similar reputations, the experience is typically far more refined. Overall, this brunch felt comparable to a standard holiday brunch at a Marriott or Hilton rather than the elevated experience your property promotes. Unfortunately, it did not justify the price paid.

"Winter getaway"

Beautiful location during the calm winter months. New this year was fire pit tables on the deck of the main hotel. We would have loved the fire pits in the sand to be operational too.

"Lovely ocean views and the best Parker House Rolls on the East coast!"

10.0

We went out for a long weekend on Presidents' Day weekend. We arrived on Friday and were told our cottage was not ready because it had to be inspected after cleaning. Cool, no problem. When we finally got our room key, imagine our surprise when we walked to our cute cottage and found the path completely covered in snow. You could see the staff had walked through it and even brought our luggage through. We were a tad nervous because if this was the start, what lay ahead? We called the front desk after almost falling twice while trying to get to our cottage. They promptly came, removed, and salted the walk, but an FYI to them: it should never have happened. But then, what happened? They redeemed themselves for the whole long weekend! We promptly went to the bar for a drink, where we met Jim, the bartender - or as I say, bartender extraordinaire. Best espresso martini I have ever had - and believe me, I have had a few. We watched the Olympics on TV, and it was just a great welcoming atmosphere. Folks were chatting and enjoying themselves. We then proceeded to dinner at Sacred Cod, and it did not disappoint. If you like a roll, and we do, you will never have a Parker House roll as good as theirs. Butter is not needed; they are dense and almost a touch sweet. The entrées were also stupendous and gorgeous presentations (especially the short rib). It was also great to have the lovely Anatasia wait on us. We left so full!!!! We happened to be there on Valentine's Day as well, and we had reservations the next night at STARS, their fine-dining establishment. Again, the wait staff, David, was a delight and made great meal suggestions. The atmosphere was full of love, and I even left with a rose at the end of the evening. I got up every morning to see the sunrise from our room in East Wind Cottage while I drank a Nespresso from the in-room machine. The view of the ocean was stupendous, and it was a great way to start the day. We went back to Scared Cod for our final night, and the staff and atmosphere were just so incredibly welcoming again. I am sure they do it with everyone, but they act like you are old friends - it certainly made you want to come back! David was working again, and Kate (I think that was her name) was working too. Matt, the manager, is on point. The people business is hard, and they make it look easy! We are already thinking of coming back for the week in the Summer. Need to decide soon. All in all - great customer service, welcoming atmosphere, and a roll to die for - what more could you want!

"Nice weekend visit"

8.0

We went for a weekend getaway with dinner and a show. The hotel is very nice but very expensive. The show was wonderful. Small, intimate room with Mary McAvoy. She told stories and sang songs. Wonderful voice. She was actually on the Voice! The food and service were very good, and the view from the hotel is spectacular.
