"Corinna Wilderness Village would have to be one of the best experiences ever."

10.0

Our visit in May to Corinna Wilderness Village would have to be one of the best experiences ever – a majestic location, no Wi-Fi, no TV, no mobile reception – terrific rustic but very liveable cabins with gas heating and cooking. The cabin was equipped with all necessary utensils, comfortable beds and a wonderful deck to sit and take in the serenity of the surrounding wilderness. We took advantage of the Tannin Restaurant at the Tarkine Hotel for evening meals and drinks while discussing the days fungi finds on our walks along the wilderness tracks. While at Corinna a must is a trip down the Pieman River on the Arcadia //. The 4-hour return trip to Pieman Heads includes morning and afternoon teas and a 90-minute stopover to explore the rugged coastline, beach and a picnic lunch, all aboard the world's only operating Huon pine river cruiser. Also take and additional trip called Sweetwater Cruise. The journey, in a smaller Yamaha craft than the Arcadia II, has the advantage of accessing the Savage River, where the wreck of the S.S. Croydon (a ship sunk in 1919, around the size of the Arcadia II) can be seen at low tide with the right weather conditions, and of mooring at the stair case to Lover’s Falls – one of the signature experiences at Corinna, of which is only accessible by small boat or kayak. Dusty was our skipper for both cruises, entertaining and very knowledgeable about the fascinating history and stories of the area.

"Second Visit"

10.0

A real remote experience. Yes, it is quite expensive, but the overall atmosphere, and the two cruises with excellent commentary, make it well worth while. Very efficient and friendly staff. The cabins are (surprisingly) very comfortable and fully self-contained. We did eat in the restaurant one night, & the food & service was also very good.
