Travelodge by Wyndham Waukegan Gurnee

The carpets were so filthy that my family never felt comfortable with our shoes off. Everything is either broken, breaking, or dirty. When you walk in, you're greeted with ruined ceilings and a make-shift ad hoc pillar holding the lobby roof up, but only barely, and not for long. The amenities were almost non-existant, with no sink space or even a remote control for the television, etc. The staff was friendly but unhelpful with anything. And the $20 cash deposit that they require is an archaic insult, especially when I book online and they have my credit cards on file. It only serves to run up fees for the in-lobby ATM. The ATM only exists for this fee, since there is nothing in the motel or nearby to spend cash on. In fact, since there is no breakfast or anything provided there, the lobby and lounge area only seem to exist for people to stand in while they wait in line to use the ATM for the privilege of paying an extra $20 deposit to use the motel you've already paid for online. Also, before you can check out, the staff goes to check the room before giving you your $20 back. The motel smells strrongly of Indian food, as many privately-owned residency motels with poor ventilation do. (I love Indian food. I love Indian people. I have no problem with the motel business model and wish them all of the luck in the world. But the smell was VERY strong, and we could still smell it on our clothes after we left.)

Great Service, clean, and Comfortable.

The interior was old and dirty. The room was full of furniture which was fine. However the desk had not chair. The side tables and walls were damaged. The bathroom curtain was so moldy we showered with it open. Bathroom tile was cracked and liens were stained. Found a random cashew when we didn't even bring in food.

Clean rooms. Great staff. Great price!

I thought that it was ridiculous that they surprise you with a $40.00 cash deposit. Then, the place smelled lot pot, including my room. When I went downstairs to tell the employee, the guy at the desk acted like this was the norm, because it was coming thru the vents. Never again, will we be staying at that hole in the wall.

The room was not cleaned well. Sheets stained. AC unit very noisy.
