Hotel del Coronado, Curio Collection by Hilton

They charged me several $100s of dollars 16 days after I checked out. When I called them, their manager acts arrogant and not at all finding a way to resolve the issue. They love your money and your credit card will get charged automatically even if you settled and paid at check out several weeks later. They will have a ‘reason’ for the charges.

I stayed with my family at Del Coranado from 3/18/26 to 3/23/26. this might a little brutal but my honest review of Del Coranado is that it is extremely overrated in almost every aspect of its property. First from top to bottom - checking was the absolute worst experience from any hotel my family and I have experienced. They have a check-in time of 4pm, ok somewhat normal I’ve seen a little earlier but they refused to check if our room was ready beforehand but wouldn’t you know 4pm on the dot we got a text saying our room was ready. We stored our bags at bell services because we were in at around noon, called down to bell services at around 4:10pm when we got inside our room and explained we have a dinner planned at 6pm with my brother who was unexpectedly deploying months earlier than expected in the next 2 days. Bell services said they would rush our bags up. We called 2 additional times after about 30 and 45 mins passed. our bags were finally brought up to our room an hour and ten minutes later, bell services said “oh we’re sorry you guys kind of slipped through the cracks” when they did drop our luggage. The room is very spacious, I will give the Del that. We stayed in room 6412 in one of the outer buildings. It has a great view of the main building off the balcony. The balcony though like most tropical climate balconies collects dust and bugs, I asked the front desk twice to have them sweep it out and clear the cobwebs, it wasn’t done. So to point out another “flaw” there is a broken step on the left staircase headed into the main building headed into the “Parlor” area. I’m nitpicking now I know, but you held us to the standard of the strict 4pm check in policy so I will hold you to your flaws now Del. The people are all very nice that I have encountered, some obviously take more pride in their service (the ones who work off tips) and it shows. Del Coranado is realistically a 4 star hotel masquerading as a 5 star hotel and charging as much as a 5. The prices are really outrageous across the restaurants/hotel bar. My wife and I usually return to hotels for repeat vacations because we’ve pretty much enjoyed all the experiences we’ve had over the years and the memories we’ve built with our children. When I asked her on the drive out if she’d stay here again she said no, and I feel the same way.

We didn´t stay a night at the hotel, but we walked inside and out, and it´s a beautiful hotel. We had a meal in one of the bar (outside, near the pool). And it has lovely views at sunset .... on a beautiful clear day without clouds!

It is absolutely beautiful and the history of the hotel is just amazing!

1. We found the refrigerator didn’t work in our first day and called and asked for maintenance. They finally sent someone out in the 3rd day who said he fixed it but he didn’t.So we never had the use of a refrigerator. 2. We paid $700 per night for the room. We were in The Views. The room was the equivalent of what you would find at a Holliday Inn Express. 3. We had housekeeping service only one day out of the four we were there. On the flip side. A. The atmosphere of the hotel is awesome. It is an iconic hotel. B. It has been recently renovated. C. There is a variety of good although expensive restaurants.

I rarely leave reviews, but this stay was honestly one of the most disappointing experiences I’ve had, especially for the price. We booked a quick beach getaway at Hotel del Coronado expecting to enjoy the ocean, only to find out after arriving that the beaches are unsafe and essentially unusable due to ongoing sewage contamination. This is not a new issue, yet there was absolutely no warning or disclosure when booking. The beach is the main reason people stay here, and not being able to use it completely defeats the purpose. We arrived late Friday night and left early Sunday morning, so we had no real opportunity to make other arrangements. For over $700 per night, this felt incredibly misleading and frustrating. To make matters worse, the amenities did not make up for it. The pool area is small, overcrowded, and there’s barely anywhere to sit. The chair cushions are visibly worn out, deteriorating, and falling apart—which is shocking for a property at this price point. Valet is another issue—there’s no way to call ahead for your car. You have to physically go down and request it, then wait around 30 minutes. And that’s for $79 per night. Overall, this stay did not come close to matching the expectations set by the price or reputation. Between the unusable beach, lack of transparency, overcrowded amenities, and poor valet experience, it simply isn’t worth what you pay. I would strongly recommend doing your research before booking, especially if beach access is important to you.

After my kids had been in the ocean for an hour on our first day, a lifeguard informed us to stay out of the e water due to sewage pollution. I would have thought the hotel would have sent a notice ahead of time or at least told us at check in. We came all the way from Texas and were unable to get in the water the entire trip.

Trophy property, everyone is happy and friendly. Excellent food on property and great restaurants walking distance. Highly recommend.

Great hotel, nice location, ok experience. What really stuck out was the smell of sewage and signs saying don't go into the water due to high levels of bacteria. Apparently a sewer from Tijuana empties tens of millions of gallons of raw sewage into the ocean about 8 miles south. The conditions is worsens the farther south you go. It is interesting that on the public beaches near the hotel, there are signs saying the water is too full of bacteria to be safe for swimming. Those signs seem to disappear in front of the Del.

Returned to this hotel for the first time in 30+ years and was pleased to find that so much of what made it unforgettable is still here: historic charm, amazing oceanfront, walkable town around it. The recent renovation made for a bright, clean, and comfortable room. We loved sitting on the large balcony and enjoying the view of the courtyard. All the negatives you might read are true: room rates are exorbitant, the room is unforgivably small, and the public areas are overrun with people not staying at the hotel. We didn’t care, though. We had a great time.
