"Mercure, as hot as Mercury 🥵"

4.0

When we arrived, after walking from the park and ride on a hot day, the reception was really unpleasantly hot. We had to stand there with our bags for 20 minutes while the lad on the desk tried to ‘check if we had paid’ He then announced there was no air con in the room and if we needed we could have another fan. He didn’t have enough key cards for the room so we said one will do. The room was boiling on the first floor. The fan was poor and blew hot air around. The window I managed to open a bit more somehow in the middle section. The wine with the room was 2 individual bottles of cheap wine not a bottle. It was unbearably hot in the room and we couldn’t have a rest there so we got changed to go out It was like getting changed in a sauna. The cleverly taken pictures of the bar drew me to the hotel but we went straight out from the heat. It was quiet in the hotel so the lively bar image seems false When we got back late evening the room was still hot. We barely slept The worst nights sleep in a hotel I’ve ever had! Breakfast the next day did thankfully have air con The English breakfast wasn’t very fresh or hot. The cheese and ham continental offering was sweating with a fly on it As other reviews mention, the location is great ✔️ Don’t think there’s an outdoor garden after viewing the website, it’s a view of across the road and possibly the botanic gardens nearby. The outdoor seating was below our window in the car park. This is a supposedly luxury hotel We didn’t allow it to spoil a big birthday break but it certainly wasn’t the comfortable stay we had paid for as a treat. I wouldn’t stay there again. Having read the other reviews, I feel sorry for those on the ground floor with no windows that would open and those on the top floor in I presume even hotter temperatures! Be more transparent on the website and drop your room rates while you are actually doing ‘the refurb’ Poor value for money

De kamer was niet helemaal proper. Het hotel is aan een grondige verfrissing toe. Airco zou ook niet misstaan.

"Disappointed"

4.0

Booked last minute and specifically this hotel as it offered air conditioning yet there was none when we arrived. I appreciate it was exceptionally hot which is rare but not only did the air conditioning not work (it hadn’t for a long time looking at it) but it took staff hours to provide a fan that was ridiculously loud. Also window was sealed shut (ground floor). Hotel well placed for sightseeing and rest was fine but we were annoyed that they are advertising a feature that they do not provide.

"Hotel rooms that resemble a sauna - avoid"

1.0

A central location near all the major locations in Oxford

And what could only be described between mild summers day, the bedrooms that faced towards Magdalen College felt like a greenhouse at day and a sauna at night. Whilst a fan was provided this simply pushed the stifling hot air around. There appeared to be an air conditioning unit in the room but no means of activating it. It proved impossible to have a decent nights sleep which had an incredibly negative impact upon a friend’s reunion I had organised. When the conditions were reported to the reception staff, a rather insincere apology was offered. DO NOT VISIT THIS HOTEL IN THE SUMMER

"Location the best thing about this hotel."

5.0

Location. Bathroom.

The bathroom was as big as the room. When o arrived there were no lights on the corridor so I had to get my phone out to see my room number.

"Rooms are unbearabley hot."

2.0

Do not stay here in the summer. The top floor rooms are sweltering. Our internal room temperature exceeded 34C during our stay. And that was after the extra fan we received. Shameful treatment with no kind of compensation, only apologies. Talk is cheap. This room was not.

"Avoid in hot weather"

2.0

Booked for 2 nights but sleeping conditions so awful we left a day early. The hotel advertised a lift but this only goes to the second floor, leaving two flights of stairs to the third floor. Our room was comfortably furnished and the bathroom was clean. However, the room was airless, no air conditioning and two fans which made little difference. We tried to sleep with the noisy fan on. I asked if anything else was available but told the hotel was fully booked and offered an air cooler which made no difference to the room temperature. We made the decision to leave then as we could not have endured another night in such unpleasant circumstances. My advice is to avoid in warmer months. Very disappointing.
