The Grand Hotel Leicester by The Unlimited Collection

Stayed with a group of friends, check in was fine, room wasn’t that special, hole in the net curtains, paint work peeling in the bathroom, window covered in pigeon poo, and the out look from the window was awful. Room didn’t get cleaned and so had no sugar or tea or fresh towels. Tried phoning reception at 11pm- 11.30pm no answer so had to get up and go down to reception. The excuse was that it was too noisy to hear so didn’t pick up call. Breakfast was awful, poor quality produce, no juice as it ran out and food wasn’t really that hot.

The staff are lovely and helpful. The bar is nice and the website promises a modern, comfortable, trendy place. THe bedrooms are shocking. Dismal, pokey, dark, out dated. The first room I saw was so dark and had no desk so I could not have worked in the evening - I travel for business. The second room was a little lighter - still no desk - but the room was so small there was no room to walk round the bd to get tp the bathroom. I spent the evening working in the bar area - not my choice as I prefer to get room service and work in my room - It was so small and depressing I could not bare to. THis would be OK if it were not charging similar rates to the Marriott!!!!! really not value for money in any way

Very friendly staff and no trouble checking in or out. Nice and easy. The hotel is a bit dated but it is a listed building and that history doesn’t always mean you going to get all mod cons. Overall I’d be happy to stay again when we’re next in Leicester.

I am extremely dissatisfied with the way I have been treated upon arrival to the grand central mercure in Leicester city. Upon arrival I was less than welcomed by an angry woman serving at the front desk. She was blunt, demanding and extremely unfriendly. Now I have stayed at other mercure hotels across the UK and have had a completely pleasant experience each time. Unfortunately my experience in Leicester has not come close to compare. I had hoped for at least a more inviting entry into such a prestigious branding of hotels. To make matters worse, the bed was completely unstable and the room smelt musty. And in course affected my asthma. I am appalled to have such an unpleasant experience to what was meant to be a lovely short weekend stay.

It’s an old and interesting building, could do with a bit of upgrading, but overall adequate.

Beautiful hotel and pleasant and accomodating staff. Room was clean and tidy. Mattress was slightly uncomfortable but think thats a personal preference and would not say it affected my experience. Can't wait to stay again!

Hotel had overbooked and didn't have a room for me upon arrival. Had to sit and wait while they phoned around other hotels to see if they had room. Obviously will not be booking with Mercure again. Avoid if you want to actually have a room.

This hotel had a charming character and great location to the city centre with friendly staff. The beds were comfortable and the room was very nice. I would recommend this hotel and would stay here again on any future trips to Leicester. King Power stadium is about a 20 minute or so walk and the Universities are about 10 or so minutes away.

This property is clearly run down. The first room we were given had a draught and was really cold. The window didn’t shut and heating wasn’t working. We were given another room - again heating in main room not working, the sink was dirty and the taps were broken so turned every time you tried to open the hot water. Given a room overlooking the high street which meant lots of noise from cars and people. This is clearly not a 4 star
