Calathea Hotel Monteverde

This is a fantastic place to stay, a very short drive to get into town, but still very convenient! The staff was incredible, very comfortable room, and breakfast was great!! Great value, wonderful place, highly recommend staying here!!

The building it self and room was nice and staff were very friendly and helpful. The issue for us was the location. The photos online are accurate but the unless you enjoy an authentic view of a 3d world country, the neighborhood was not so great. The access to this place is a rough dirt alley. The view from one side is of a caged house with a mud yard and a pile of old tires. The view from patio is rusted metal roofs and more shacks. Additionally you are expected to put your used toilet paper in the waste basket. My wife would not have that so in order to do a #2 one needs to do your business in stages where you need to flush the toilet 5-6 times, not so eco-friendly. Due to the poor plumbing conditions our room smelt like a sewer all the 2nd day with the shower backing up and overflowing to the bathroom floor. No AC is common around here but wish we had it. Again the staff were great, breakfast was good too bad about the plumbing and neighborhood.

Location was great! The breakfasts were excellent! We had an amazing outside dining experience every morning with gorgeous views all the way to the ocean! It was a spacious 2 bedroom apartment that was perfect for a small family! The staff was great to talk with and made an excellent experience for a place to stay. I would come back here every time, highly recommended!

I loved everything about this boutique hotel and our two night stay. Modern, surrounded by nature and the friendliest staff we encountered during our trip to Costa Rica. Amazing!! 5 star!!

The property is in a neighborhood, which is interesting but can be noisy with dogs and music from neighbors. The description in Expedia stated the room had a water view which is not correct. Maybe there is one from an outdoor patio accessibly to all rooms. The staff was wonderful, so accommodating and kind-they make the place! Room was very clean!

Very safe. Parking is on the property behind a huge gate controlled by remote key given with your room key. Great view from the upstairs deck where we had breakfast (included). Staff was incredibly welcoming!

This lodge is truely a gem. Very relaxed atmosphere, very accommodating hosts, great views, and nice cosy rooms.

Room was nicely decorated. Staff was friendly. Nice view out back of room into the woods. We had a 7:00 am tour so we couldn’t utilize regular breakfast. They made us a sandwich, fruit, and juice which was appreciated, but if all that was done, they could have just as easily fed us normal breakfast a little early. Also, a little difficult to check out and still be able to access your car when you return. Overall, enjoyed it!

The staff was wonderful! Everyone was friendly and helpful. Check in and out was easy. We enjoyed the breakfast each morning and the room had everything we needed and was very clean.

Stay was fabulous. The terrace offers beautiful views of the ocean in the distance. You can see and hear the sounds of myriad birds as well. The breakfast was just perfect to get the day started. And they helped with making recommendations and reservation for tours and activities in the area.
