Hampton Inn Portage

My husband was not with me and had made my reservation. I had driven 10 hours with a child and dog. The man at the desk would not let me check in. My husband made the reservation but did not travel with me.

There was a Surly desk clerk, who gave my husband a glow stick when he asked for a flashlight since we kept losing power due to tornado warnings and awful weather. The hotel was being remodeled, but they put us on a floor that reeked of paint. There were open paint cans in the hallway. All in all, staying here was an awful experience.

Under renovation but looks like it will be really nice once done

We stayed at this Hampton inn for two nights. we arrived early and the manager allowed us to check in to our room early with no fee, greatly appreciated. We've stayed here multiple times because we take the South shore commuter train at at dune Park into Chicago. It Is a short 15 minute trip to that train station from this hotel. Every time we've stayed at this hotel we have enjoyed ourselves. I don't understand all the bad reviews. we've never had a dirty room everyone has always been courteous and now under the new management the whole hotel is being redone it's fresh and new the beds were and still are very comfortable the breakfast is a typical Hilton breakfast, same stuff you get at every Hilton and it is always clean in the breakfast area. The best thing we like about this hotel is the incidental fees is only $50 for your whole stay, if you say in Chicago the incidental fees there are $100 a night plus maybe three or $400 a night during peak season for your stay. If I could give this hotel 10 Stars I would it's in a great location if you don't like the hotel breakfast there's a Denny's in walking distance and then there's a Bass pro maybe 5 minutes away with multiple restaurants a short drive away. This is a great hotel with great management.

Hampton Inn is usually good even price is on high side.

This hotel is under new ownership. I stayed here just after they took over and could already see the work they were doing. Things have only continued to improve. Renovations are still underway, and will continue on this upward trajectory. The rooms are clean, the beds are comfortable, and the customer service is welcoming and responsive. We will definitely be back!

Nice small town facility.
