Kyoisuke

Very quiet neighborhood but within a few blocks to get to the main streets of Kyoto so easy to get to bus stops and train stations. Lots of good restaurants near the guest house which we enjoyed. Having the bathtubs on both floors were good. The staff was GREAT! Very welcoming and kind, always ready to respond to our questions and were so helpful.

At first we weren't used to sitting on the floor at the low table only but understand that it is typical for a traditional japanese guest house in the main living room. Just took some time getting used to it.

Interesting place. Not what we expected, but were pleasantly surprised how we adapted well.

We loved our stay at Kyoisuke Otonari! We had 3 adults and 2 children in our group and were very comfortable in the space. As an adult, I would like to mention that the futon bed was one of the most comfortable sleeping experiences I have EVER had. Far more comfortable than most Western style beds--it felt like sleeping in a cloud. The two baths were wonderful--both felt so peaceful to soak in after a day of much walking, especially while looking out at the little garden. This spot is a gem and it was such a treat to stay in such a beautiful machiya.

This house was the favorite stay during my group’s 2 week stay in Japan. It was an incredibly comfortable stay that also became an experience to be added to our trip. From the welcoming tea ceremony to being to sleep in a tatami room with futons, it felt like we were experiencing a slice of life in Japan unlike typical hotel stays. Although the kitchen isn’t fully usable, the location is surrounded by restaurants and a Lawson is located nearby should you need something to eat. Speaking of location, nearby public transport can get you to many the key locations in Kyoto in good time.

The initial entrance to the location wasn’t obvious and the sign outside translated to a phrase that implies that it would trespassing to enter. We took the risk of going down the alley after walking around the location searching for the entrance.

Host went above and beyond for us as they waited for our arrival. The house is so lovely to spend with family and friends in.

Just had to be quiet at all times which can be hard for a big group.

Such a great experience to be in a traditional Japanese townhouse, which has been meticulously maintained and modernized where necessary. Loved our stay. Felt really special.

It’s hard to find only on the arrival, but super easy once you find it. Never had a problem finding it after exploring the town.
