Amazingly clean and in a perfect location. Upon arriving, we were greeted and walked through the unit. Our Japanese is extremely limited but the host was exceptional at communication all we needed to know. We were also treated to a Matcha Tea making lesson, which was a highlight of the trip.

Our stay was 10/10, we have no criticisms or suggestions to improve.

They were very kind and went out of their way to help us with athought the entire stay That's priceless infact my daughter forgot her cuddly toy, and they sent jt to our final stay hotel in tokyo.

The only reason I am not giving a 10 is the place lucked natural light. But in the end, we spent all the time outside anyway.

Everything about Machiya and staff was fabulous. The staff are very attentive, polite and helpful. Located just off of Shijo Dori, it's close to metro and bus stops and a stones throw from Nishiki Market. If you feel like a stroll, you can walk to Kiyomizu Dera in less than an hour passing Gion as you go.

- Great location: Easy access to Nishiki Market, Gion and transport to get to temples and shrines. - The staff were incredibly friendly and hospitable, with the tea ceremony being a really nice way to welcome us to the accommodation. - The interior was beautiful and looked identical to the photos (although you will need to watch your head moving from room to room and going upstairs as ceilings and door frames are very low) - The beds were very comfortable and the facilities provided made for a very pleasant living experience. Only good things to say about our stay here!

- The "No Entry" sign in front of the lane the hotel was located on was slightly confusing at first. Once we figured out this only applied to non-guests though, everything was smooth.

Charming historic property convenient for transit, shopping, dining, with lovely staff. Felt like someone’s home, and we loved the tubs and two toilets. Great a/c too!

Caution for folks with bad knees regarding very steep stairs.

La casa in cui abbiamo soggiornato era fantastica, in pieno stile tradizionale, tatami, futon e tanto legno. Detto ciò la parte ancora più interessante è la possibilità di usufruire di tutti i servizi moderni anche all'interno di una casa così tradizionale, non manca il tv, il purificatore, l'aria condizionata, ottimi servizi igienici ed una buona cucina; insomma è perfetto già così, inoltre abbiamo lo staff, così gentile e premuroso, si preoccupa realmente del tuo benessere. Ottima anche l'accoglienza con una piccola cerimonia del tè Matcha.

We had a lovely stay at this ryokan. The hospitality was fantastic, and we enjoyed a tea ceremony where we even made the tea ourselves. Dinner and breakfast were delicious and very traditional. Highly recommended

Fantastic it was a lovely place will definitely stay there again the hosts were fantastic friendly helpful it was incredibly lovely
