Sonder The Hancock

The location is perfect for us. Our daughter lives in the Beacon Hill neighborhood, so Sonder House is convenient - close by and more room than a traditional hotel room.

Counter space in the bathroom. A shelf to hold toiletries would be a nice touch.

Location was superb. Comfortable.

TV only works on streaming services, which foreigners have no access to in US. Please can you just put a proper TV in the apartment. We like to follow the local news while away. It would probably stop me returning.

Nice bed and pillows. Nicely equipped and nicely decorated Location is excellent. Overall is a very good option. We travel to boston very frequently and have stayed in 3 different apartments in this particular location.

It was perfectly placed for the beautiful area of Beacon Hill. It was 10 minutes walk to the common and north station. The apartment had everything you needed.

I would note there is no elevator, so carrying our bags up 3 flights of stairs when we got there was a challenge. The tv didn’t have cable, the only way we could watch TV was through our laptops or phone and casting it to the TV. The nature of the level we were at (apartment 12) there was only a small window to the outside so it was dark much of the time and needed the light on. But this is probably just the nature of these types of apartments in buildings like this.

The apartment was in a perfect location and was in good shape. It would have benefited from a full length mirror and more storage space for clothes and shelves in the bathroom for toiletries. Otherwise it had everything you need. The café table in the kitchen was broken and wobbly. We reported this but it was not repaired during our stay.

I was left stranded and had to scramble for a last-minute hotel when the Sonder Beacon Hill property automated remotely controlled lock was broken and the self-help lock box had the wrong key. I ultimately lost $ 434 plus over $100 in Uber trips for four days to get to/from work when I had to scramble at the last minute for a hotel in Boston. I strongly recommend a hard pass on Sonder. Even a bad AirBnB is better than a good-looking Sonder. Customer Service, when I did reach a human, said their hands were tied and they could only offer a refund so I'm out over $500 personally for having chosen Sonder for work. Never again.

I was surprised that this accommodation qualifies itself as a hotel. It is air bnb. No reception or security was present. Nothing to do with the picture of the building as the rooms are in the basement. The rooms are damp as they are in the basement and noisy with the people walking in the apartment above. When I reported these to Sonder, their customer care center suggested that I travel with a white noise generator. Just not worth the price. Go and stay at a proper hotel.

Clean, bed was very comfortable, location was perfect. Beautiful neighbour and very central.

The inside of the building itself was run down and had a very overwhelming musty smell. Parts of the apartment need some small repairs.

DO NOT BOOK! 1) No elevator and the apartment is on the 5th floor. 2) The windows are permanently sealed and the apartment stinks of mould. 3) only two 40ml bottles of shampoo/conditioner for 7 nights’ stay. 4) The communication is horrible- I called to ask about the windows and for 40 minutes on the phone I was reassured that it was my fault that I was too weak to open them. Two long calls later and two days later a “caretaker” came to check and (surprise) the windows were sealed permanently. 5) despite all the above, they charged me 47 dollars for checking out at 2pm. Save your backs, save your money, save your peace of mind. Don’t book this.
