Hotel Haus am See Self Check-in

Stunning location and beautiful view from our room. A little bit noisy (can hear people upstairs closing doors/moving around). Decor could do with updating but the location made it worthwhile. Self check-in was easy. Friendly staff/owner at checkout (English-speaking!). Convenient for access to trains and boats/buses to Hallstatt.

We rented a room with a balcony. The view of the lake was spectacular. Room was small but clean and functional. There was no coffee provided (unless you paid $18 Euros for breakfast, but there was a bakery cafe just down the road. Hotel was vey close to the train station and the clerk was friendly and helpful. A great place overall

I find the reviews and reply from the owner really hilarious and do come back time to time to read and get a good laugh. We stayed here a couple of years ago and had a pretty good experience. The owner was business-like but was certainly not unfriendly to us. In fact, we took a shared van from Hallstatt back to the hotel one day and left the back-pack in the van. The owner made multiple calls and finally got the van to come back and deliver the bag back to us. Yes, there is no elevator and rooms are small. The breakfast is basic but has enough for a good morning start. The view is terrific, location convenient, close to the train station. Some people have called the owner racist but we did not experience anything like that - We are from Bangalore, India!. Just manage your expectations about the 'reception', most of it is self-check in and carrying your own bag upstairs all the way to your room. Justfocus on the visit to Hallstatt or even do a 3 hour hike into the woods around this area. The owner gave us a map which we used for a fabulous hike - one of the best we have experienced so far in our travel around the world. I know that some of the people who had negative experience will wonder what is going on - but for those who are looking at the reviews, to keep this balanced, I thought of writing my experience.

Great property.

Had a lovely experience staying four nights in this hotel. This hotel definitely has the best views out of all the ones in the area - waking up to the lake and mountains every morning was breathtaking! The hotel is a few minutes walk to the train station which connects you to the rest of the area. Hallstatt is only a short boat ride away, or about an hour walk by the lake, which was also nice. The hosts were kind and very helpful. My only suggestion would be to have a kettle in the room, or even a shared one in a communal area - would be lovely to have a cup of tea on my balcony watching the view. Overall I had a great experience and would certainly stay again! Thank you

Gentleman at the front desk was very friendly but the lady (probably the owner or manager) not at all friendly. She woke us up at 7:40 am for not parking the car properly although it was not blocking any car and asked for 6 Euros for two extra pillows when we said the pillows provided were disintegrated. They knew we arrived late the previous night and moving the car could wait another half hour. Rooms are really small.

The location was gorgeous, the hotel was okay but there are no elevators. The room view was beautiful but the room itself was kind of small. Breakfast was good.

Very clean room but very small. Small shower and toilet area. We were only there for one night. Easy parking which was a plus. Great location

Saw some bad reviews about this property but I'e never had any of those bad experiences. Location is amazing. I even liked more than the main tourist area. Sadly I booked a view with mountain instead of the lake. It would be better if I had the lake view. I also had breakfast with extra fee, I loved it. I recommend this place

Absolutely REGRET to book this place. Please take note this property is listed on booking.com as B&B Hallstatt Lake - self check in instead of B&B Haus AM See. OTHERWISE I would have read the horrible experiences of various guests on google review. A very unplesant and unhelpful receiption manager and is not able to even direct nor answer a simple question as where the trashbin is at lobby instead he is yelling at you saying he has no time. He also refuse to guide you how to check in instead he told you off rudely by you asking you to read the email. But I didn't have data upon arrival so I was not able to access my email. The hotel room is very basic except they have a good view but the horrible experience staying at this unpleasant hotel doesnt reconcile the breathtaking view they have. If you read the denial response of this property to most of the negative reviews of various guests. Instead to recognise and improve the customer service. Guest who is paying to stay here dont deserve for impolite response if they are asking a simple question.
