Great location in the centre of Ambleside. Good breakfast

Unable to check-in at 3pm as advertised, apparently due to external works on the building which meant the rooms were not ready. We had arrived wet after a long walk so not a great start, though reception did store our backpacks. There was scaffolding everywhere and next morning workmen were up and outside our window by 8am.

My husband and I had dinner at the Ambleside Inn. He ordered the Gammon Steak and I had steak pie. His Gammon was undercooked and they took it back and prepared another. My steak pie was so bad I wouldn't feed it to my dog! There was no meat in the pie whatsoever, just unrecognisable contents and the pastry so hard I struggled to cut it with a knife. This dinner set us back just short of £50 which included 2 drinks. They have you pay upfront so there is nothing you can do about it unfortunately as they have your money before you get the food. The waiter was very apologetic and understood that the pies are not the best. This food is definitely not good value for money and there are much better quality restaurants in the area if you want a nice meal at a reasonable price.

Excellent hotel in the centre of Ambleside. Great value for money. Good breakfast. Room comfy and clean. Everything you need. Happy helpful staff. There was renovation work being done but no disruption to our stay

We had lunch at the Ambleside Inn with our dog and a group of friends. We each had different meals, and all were fantastic. My Scampi and Chips with a side of onion rings were exactly as they should have been. Perfect! There were even dishes specifically for dogs. Would recommend

Clean, convenient location, larger room, quiet

No parking, but staff was helpful in finding long term (overnight) parking not terribly far away

Staff were really helpful.
