Wonderful historic luxury hotel

Limited car parking, but actually at the side of York railway station, with one platform access door

My original room assignment was on ta floor not accessible by lift. When I said that wasn't OK, I was assigned an accessible room, which was on the lower ground floor. I was not happy with that room, and the manager went to some trouble to find me a room on the second floor, served by the lift. Breakfast and dinner in the restaurant were good.

Even the room on the second floor involved carrying my suitcase up several steps.

Location is perfect. It is very close to the railway station and the bus station.

There’s no working desk in the rooms and no slippers. The bathroom was leaking to the floor.

We loved the whole experience there our first time staying

Beautiful hotel but overall, was disappointed for the £338 we paid for two nights in a standard room. Firstly, we nearly paid £80 for two nights parking in addition and for which was not stated, luckily avoided by a passing employee who said as a guest, it would only for £40 for 48 hours. Secondly, the room was small, and the bed so uncomfortable it gave us backache and neck ache. It was two beds pushed together with a double mattress and you could feel the join. It also had very small pillows that went flat, with no additional pillows to sit upright to read. Room chair also not relaxing. We’d stayed at Premier Inn prior to this and surprisingly, the mattress was far superior. The whole room was here was low quality when the price you pay sets the standard for your expectation. I think you’d have to upgrade to a superior room /suite to fully enjoy this hotel but for the standard room, I’d give it a miss for the price we paid.

Stayed as a couple overnight with our small dog. The hotel is dog friendly. My first negative is the parking charge at £22 on top of the above average room charges. We are in the restaurant at night and the meal was average, we were never asked how our meal was and then charged £6 service charge at the end without asking us is this was ok. On the day of departure my husband walked to fetch the car as I had recently broken my ankle and I sat in the garden room waiting for him (this is a dog friendly area). I was asked quite rudely to move out of this room as I had not purchased a drink. Seems to be that all the staff care about is making money. They prioritise wedding guests over the general public. Will not return

N'ayant pas compris qu'il fallait s'inscrire à la réception pour le petit dejeuner alors que le premier jour nous avions donné notre nom et notre numéro de chambre le deuxième jour on nous a dans un premier temps refusé l'entrée,heureusement un responsable à réglé le problème.

good location, well presented, bed wonderfully comfortable.

i didn’t think it warranted the 400 per night price tag. The breakfast was also quite chaotic.
