The Stratton House Hotel

This was a last minute booking as my long term hotel booking elsewhere was cancelled by the hotel. This is a pub with rooms. Our room was very nice with great shower room and comfy bed. It was a hot weekend without aircon which in itself was not a problem as a fan was in the room. The window opened no problem but sadly the kitchen monster fan was outside the window ( Room 8!). The manager switched it off at 11pm after kitchen staff forgot-no issues there. Told it would not start until 9am for following morning ( bank holiday Sunday). It fired up at 07.30 so no peaceful lie in. It was the only room affected by the fan. No discount either -ask for one!!! Good breakfast by chirpy staff. A little chaotic but pleasant experience.

The building and actual bar was lovely. Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff.

We had to wait about 15 mins ( after ringing assistance bell) room wasn't clean ( I'm a housekeeper myself) stains on bathroom mirror, brown stains on duvet cover, although thankfully was warm so didn't need, looking forward to coffee before we left for our 6hr journey home..No Mugs ...( Even though a kettle and tea and coffee. The double beds where very small and side tables where of a height to whack your head on from the pillow. All in all, wouldn't stay again, this was room 21...very tired and needs serious updating! May well have only been £77 but still expect the basics.

Very good quality breakfast included in the price of the room. Reasonably priced bar.

Lack of anti slip surface or a handrail to aid stepping out of the bath after showering. Light switches on only one side of the bed.

The room was dated curtains hanging off the plastic runners, cobwebs around light fittings, holes in walls outside bedroom door and around the bath

Location for play golf at John o gaunt
