Bueatiful apartment. I'm really glad I stayed there. The host was very nice and patient.

I really enjoyed staying at this traditional Ryokan. It was a self-contained apartment house, with a seating area with a little courtyard, a fridge, a bathroom and an upstairs bedroom. I thought the old wood architecture and tatami was very beautiful, and going up and down the stairs each day made me feel like I was staying in a house, not a hotel! I loved the sense of privacy and the traditional Japanese feeling. The shower water pressure was strong and fantastic and the cedar wood smelled great. It was a relaxing and hot shower that was to die for each day after walking a lot through the city and temples. The comforter was nice and fluffy. It was great to stay in the old quarter, Gion, too. Excellent location with a ton of bars and restaurants surrounding it.

Half way through my stay there was a swarm of termites in the sink and shower, both the live bugs and wings. Thankfully, I am from Miami so I knew what they were and that they were harmless to me. I know it's an old wooden building. But perhaps treat it for termites? And put up a sign about them in English so that tourists know they may encounter them. Thanks.
