La Mariposa Hotel

We really enjoyed our five night stay at La Mariposa. Special shout-out to Alan at the reception desk, who helped us throughout our stay with recommendations and pre-bookings of a few things. Our only disappointing experience was the initial check-in after a very long, 18 hour travel day, including two flights and a long drive from the airport. Upon giving us our room, a service worker escorted us to the room. Upon opening the door, we smelled a very poor raw sewage odor. As soon as the service staffer left, we opened the bathroom door and were overwhelmed by the absolutely horrific odor. I immediately called to the front desk, and was told that someone was coming ‘right away’ to check it out. We waited for some time, to no avail, and so had to contact the front desk once again. A service staff member was only then sent to check it out, and after some time, had only caulked a couple inches around the toilet base. We knew, based on the intensity of the smell, that it had to be much more than a simple caulking job. So I went to the reception desk and requested a new room. By this time it was getting quite late, and we were exhausted. Gratefully, we were indeed given a very nice corner room on the top floor, and were told that we’d be moved back to our “original room” the next day after whatever repairs needed to be made. We simply wanted to unpack our belongings once, and only once, for our entire stay. The next morning we proceeded to the front desk, when we met Alan, who had already been notified of our situation. Upon me then going back and forth on the ‘phone’ with somone who could make decisions (Alan was not permitted to do so on his own), we were placed into a lovely unit, which we thoroughly enjoyed for the duration of our stay. The hotel sits at the very top of Manuel Antonio, and the views are stunning, as are the grounds and pool area. The breakfast at the open-air restaurant was a lovely and relaxing beginning to our mornings.

The locality is stunning, and so are the common areas. The food is okay ... great breakfast choices but not all ingredients are fresh; no one seems to be prepared for lunch, and it's mediocre at best with stale ingredientsand terrible shrimp and uncooked vegetables; dinner was nice except for the geckos hanging out under some lights on the wall. Although the common areas are updated, and the pools are set on stunning ocean and forest scenes, the rooms are still stuck in the 70s ... the floors are bare with not a single rug, tired furniture, and extremely outdated bathrooms. The shower had no water pressure and everything is just OLD! There is a convenient shuttle from the hotel to the beach below that runs 4 times a day, and in addition city buses run every 20 minutes but stop a little below the hotel ... a short walk but a little uphill.

La Mariposa hotel is a gem in Manuel Antonio. We stayed in room 6 which is very large, impeccably clean with spectacular views and super comfortable beds. The staff in the hotel is amazing, every person with whom we interacted was professional, kind, friendly and went above and beyond. The breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of fruits, breads, local dishes and cooked to order eggs and other items. I recommend this fantastic hotel without any hesitation

Amazing views from room. Hotel pool was great. Room was large and good location. Walking distance to bars and restaurants. Only downside is bathroom door doesn’t shut fully so you can hear everything

La Mariposa was a beautiful hotel with an incredible view. We stayed in one of the corner suites and couldn't have been happier. Amazing scenery day in and out and we even had a pair of macaws living in the tree outside our room - what a special treat! The pool was nice and relaxing and the overall atmosphere of the hotel was great.

La Mariposa has one of the best views in all of Manuel Antonio. Sitting on the expansive patio, enjoying excellent meals and the incredible view was definitely a highlight of our trip. They booked us in a beautiful room but it looked down on the outside bar area, which was too noisy for us. They were very helpful in presenting other room options; we really appreciate how accommodating they were to our request. Staff were all helpful and friendly.

100% stunning.

WOW! Just Wow! We stayed in the corner sunset ocean view room on the 4th floor and it's almost entirely windows! There's no way to fully describe the breath-taking view! You have a birds eye view of Manuel Antonio national park and an infinite ocean view that you could sit and look at for hours. In fact, the view is so magical you wouldn't have to leave the room. ;) A daily breakfast buffet was included in the room rate, and having a 14 year old that's a huge saver! Le Papillon restaurant is a go-to on the island for a reason. The views cannot be beat. The infinity pool was amazing for a relaxing day off and compared to some other hotels we looked at this hotel's location is at the top of M.A. so you can see for days. Capuchin and Spider Monkeys played throughout the property and there are a couple pair of Toucan's that fly around the hotel every day. You cannot go wrong staying at this hotel. Book the corner room - it's worth the money!!!
