La Mariposa Hotel

Incredible experience!! The view from our room was breathtaking! Hands down the best view we’ve ever had at a hotel. Such a sweet little gem to stay at. We saw 8 scarlet macaws off of our balcony!

My second time at La Mariposa, first time was 20 years ago and it surpassed my memories. I wanted to bring my family. This hotel is very clean, the staff are so wonderfully attentive and the best views I have ever had from a hotel room! We stayed only 2 nights, wish we had more time. It is a very relaxed atmosphere and no huge bells and whistles but that is not what I was looking for. There are a couple of great restaurants within a couple minutes walk, within our first couple of hours we saw monkeys, scarlett macaws and more. We are now staying in another area of CR at a resort that feels like Disney and I really yearn for the simple beauty of La Mariposa! Breakfast buffet included was very good. Rooms are spacious. And the smaller boutique size allows for relaxation and immediate attention. Can’t wait to return!

This places cancelled our reservation less than 2 weeks prior to our visit!! When we contacted them and said we did not want to cancel, they said it wasn’t paid (yet we got a refund for the stay) and they would not rebook. My guess is they could sell the room for more money.

Views are outstanding. Dinner outside with the sunsetting, the best. Gregory went out of his way to take pics of us. Around the pool, Yerald was the man! Remembered our names, polite, attentive. He was always friendly.

This Hotel is wonderful all around. I traveled with a couple of girlfriends on a reunion trip. Most of the accommodations have a beautiful view of the ocean and because it sits high up, it's a bit cooler and you see birds flying and soaring almost at eye level. The grounds are really pretty, and you are close to nearby restaurants and shops. The beach is a shuttle ride away, which was fine with us, as we were not interested in just hanging out at the beach. From this hotel, you can arrange many excursions and are picked up right at the hotel. The breakfast was buffet style with fruits, breads, and made to order omelets. We had dinner twice at Le papillon restaurant overlooking the ocean and the food was very good, although I would describe it as a bit short of gourmet, as the lobster was a bit overcooked. The list of wines by the bottle were very nice. The service was excellent and the staff do work really hard. Randall and Gregory, where two of our waiters at the restaurant who made special efforts to be sure we were happy. The rooms are nice with comfortable firm (I like firm) beds and nice pillows. The bathroom was also very nice. I had to be careful not to slip in the shower in spots where the tile gets soapy and slippery, and the tile floors in the room could also be slippery if wet. We arranged transportation from the airport in San Jose, and both drivers we had were excellent, and since we were the only passengers, we could stop along the way for snacks, bathroom breaks, and crocodiles as needed. I was surprised that this hotel was classified as three-star. I think I would give it a four-star rating.

This place was unbelievable!! We had an ocean view room, which was incredible. The room was also quite large and clean. Everyone was attentive and very nice. As we were leaving, I carried my suitcase up the stairs and someone who was working on the grounds ran over and carried it up the rest of the way. I was so impressed with that because I didn't even have to ask. We enjoyed the sunset on the patio because the view was beautiful and the atmosphere was fun. Breakfast was delicious. Randall served us each morning and remembered what we liked in our coffee and what we wanted to drink. He was engaging, funny, and so nice.

Everything was amazing. I’m so glad we stayed here. Every single staff person was so kind, helpful, caring and awesome!!! The pool was so beautiful! We loved our stay!!! We loved the view! The room was beautiful. The breakfast was nice. The ground were lovely. No complaints! Oskar, Luis, and Paola were fantastic and truly the whole staff was amazing.

Wonderful vacation spot. The views are unbeatable and the staff service is top notch. We will definitely be back!
