The Cross Keys

We were meant to be stopping at the Cross Keys this weekend (21//22 March) but unbeknown to us the place has closed down. We made the booking in December through booking.com and weren't informed that the place has closed. Understandably very frustrating to turn up and find the place in darkness. Avoid booking at all costs!

Please do not try and book this hotel through Booking.com, this hotel has been closed for weeks, but advertised by the above company on their site. We as 2 couples booked this hotel in Oct last year, only to turn up on the booking in date, to find it closed, we were going to a family wedding in the area, and to find another hotel, in fact my brother and his wife were so upset that they drove home after the wedding vows, and missed the evening entertainment, our daughters phoned around and found us another hotel, oh by the way we received an email the day before from the hotel via Booking.com giving us booking in details, please please read the reviews before even looking at this hotel

DO NOT book this public house/ hotel through booking.com as it has shut down!! I have been stung for 8 rooms for a wedding party on the 31st January, 2026. I went to visit this public house on Saturday 17th January, as no one was answering my calls. I looked around the property outside and through the windows...it is dirty and unkempt. I have had a lucky escape! Although I have lost a lot of money as I didn't take out a policy for cancellation with booking.com....This place is shocking !!

The bed was horrific! Huge dip in the matress at room number 9. Barely any loo roll in the bathroom. Lighting was shocking

Great place to stay - the place was lovely and clean, the staff were so welcoming and friendly! They arranged for an early check in for us as we were due for a wedding which was a massive he’ll! Breakfast was fantastic too!! Cannot fault the place

Scum in shower and dark hairs.. We paid for breakfast but pub was locked, no staff on site or no food. We asked a cleaner where the staff were, he rang manager and he had told him that he was an hour away and there was no food delivery. Not once communicated any of this to us! No-one to hand keys too as pub locked. We had to go out buy a breakfast then come back look for manager to complain. His response " you only paid 3 pound for breakfast". He says we put the hairs in bath.. we have blonde hair.. the hairs were black! He wouldn't take responsibility for anything. Awful experience and attitude from the "manager". Never been so insulted as much in all my life. He gave us the wrong room. No-one answering any phone calls or the 'emergency contact' number - again his response "we're all entitled to a day off " There were other guests staying who wanted breakfast , their daughter had to bring them a bottle of milk to the hotel so they could have a cup of tea! Shocking customer service don't waste your money here!!!

DO NOT BOOK!! We have just returned from a 2 night stay here, we attended our friends wedding at colshaw hall. There were a group of us staying and all booked rooms, the car park is very difficult to find and not at all sign posted well! That was the least of our worry’s, on arrival we were greeted by a young girl, who told us the manager had basically done a bunk and took everything and left them in the crap. We were shown to our room, it was clean and nice located outside. The pub itself is very dated inside and not in the best condition. Our friends arrived a few hours later to be told the previous manager had double booked the rooms and basically done a bunk with all the money & everything! There were no chef or food so no food available, no cooked breakfast which people had paid for when booking! We went to have a drink in the bar, I ordered a drink to be told they had no ice, so was served a warm gin! I felt so sorry for the young girl as she was clearly left in a difficult situation but she handled it well and did her best, please avoid for now, you’ll be very disappointed!

Stayed here as we had a wedding at Colshaw Hall. No issues with room, hot but fan provided was fine. Main issue we had was on checkout, booking.com states 11am. Cleaner was outside room at 10am, fairly rude saying you need to be out. That needs addressing either with booking.com or the hotel itself. The pub itself could do with a bit of a spruce up and possibly more security regarding access to rooms (especially from beer garden), nothing was locked so could potentially wander in off the alleyway.

The room was dark and very very hot despite having an inadequite fan . The noise from a beer garden was crazy on the Sat night. The continental breakfast included stale croissants and insipid coffee. There was no fruit available. In Booking . Com the exit time was 11 am. The one available staff member was insistent that the exit time was 10 am. Not a good stay.

Perfect little British pub on the bottom street of Knutsford. The reviews are harsh considering my experience, although I am aware that the business is under new management. I must say they are doing a splendid job! Matt, India and I’m not sure who the other manager was, Gaz or Daz. They are assets to the company. Total professionalism and know how to keep customers engaged. Always a happy welcoming entrance. The dog was adorable and under total control. Dog friendly pub and I would recommend to anyone who fancies a couple of drinks or a bite to eat. The menu has recently just started again: Unfortunately the TV’s do not work however this was explained to us upon arrival. I think the TV’s would improve the atmosphere a lot. The pub was clean and India was always cleaning the bar and wiping tables to keep herself busy. I will definitely be returning soon :) Well done guys!
