The hotel building has star quality: a stunning façade, huge atrium, and beautiful proportions. Given that, it is a huge pity that the leisure facilities (sauna, steam room and pool) are as small as you commonly find in a boutique hotel with a fraction of the number of rooms that the Midland has. This really needs addressing. The hotel is imposing though not as luxurious as others - but for the price it fully deserves 5 stars. Housekeeping was variable - excellent some days, on other days I noticed communal corridors had not been vacuumed for more than 24 hours. The front desk was well staffed with no queues during the 5 days I was staying there. Similarly the breakfasts were well staffed and well organised.

Beautiful stay. Stunning hotel draped in history. Clean and inviting. Helpful and kind staff. Excellent breakfast selection that was tasty. The only thing that is a negative is adding a 12.5% service charge for drinks at the bar, that is steep when buying a round of drinks.

I am staying at the hotel for a business meeting, with a large group, so I expected service to be overwhelmed, however this was not the case, a particular shout out to Bev M who ensured we had an efficient breakfast service, a fabulous welcome and start to the day, she’s a real star and personifies great customer service! Well done.

Great central location. The building is beautiful and looks even better when illuninated at night. Delightful staff in all areas. Tradionally furnished rooms which are very comfortable. Enthusiastic shower, which I love ! Excellent restaurant. The circular bar is also a great place to be.

From walking into the hotel entrance, The experience was magical. The staff were fantastic. The check-in was excellent and efficiently operated to give an overall great service. Thank you to the Chef who made my egg fresh and to my liking. Overall score 10/10

Lovely relaxed birthday celebrations Attentive professional friendly staff. Martin in particular looked after us fabulously remembering our drinks orders and chatted amiably making us feel welcome and special The birthday candle and cake was a treat!! Thank you Martin!

what a beautiful hotel! my daughter got married in Manchester and this was the hotel we all stayed at! The rooms are perfect, service from staff exceptional and location fabulous.. The Midland.. we’ll be back soon ❤️❤️

Booked a last minutes weekend stay here to attend Women's Rugby World Cup and Moulin Rouge at The Palace Theatre. Was looking forward to a luxury break before a busy period at work. Booked a Superior Twin Room as staying with daughter. On arrival the refurbished bar and entrance area is striking and sets you up for an amazing day. However, once you have left this area, it is all a little disappointing and feels like all the effort has been put on first impressions. We were allocated a room on the fifth floor and initially were impressed with the general appearance of the room - very spacious with a refurbished marble bathroom. However, it soon became apparent that the maintenance of the room was sadly lacking. The card holder for the lights fell off the wall every time we removed the card, the sink struggled to drain but most frustrating was the aircon was broken and constantly set at 26 degrees. As we were on a higher floor, the windows only opened a fraction and we had to put rolled up towels on the ledges to keep them ajar. Issues happen and I would rather judge a place for its response to an issue than the issue itself. We reported the problem and maintenance was sent to the room to check on the issues. As they were unable to repair, we were offered a voucher for 2 complimentary drinks in the bar, a fan in the room and a room change for the second evening with an upgrade (due to them being 'practically full' on the first night. The room was hot and uncomfortable all night but, with the promise of a room change and upgrade the following day, we just got on with it. The staff were amazing, very apologetic and appeared to want to make things right. Therefore, we went out for the day on the second day with the promise all our luggage would be moved to the new room for our return. As promised everything had been done as promised however on entering the new room it didn't feel like an upgrade - room was considerably smaller and the bathroom was the same as when we used to stay here when it was a Q Hotel. Each time we expressed our disappointment on something we were given a voucher for two free drinks in the bar without any remedial action taken. Therefore on checking out I did speak to a duty manager about our experience who seemed extremely disappointed that we had not been impressed by our stay and invited us to return on a discounted rate so that they could show the true 'Midland Experience'. We were extremely happy with this offer as it is an amazing building and very convenient when visiting Manchester. Therefore, my daughter booked a return stay when returning to Manchester for a Theatre Production. She was delighted to see that her reservation showed she had been allocated a Superior room. However, on arriving her room had similar issues to our previous visit with maintenance: the card holder kept falling off the wall, a broken handle on the shower door and the bathroom mirror installed upside down so the anti-misting area was completely useless. The Midland markets itself as comparable to Radisson, Hilton or Malmaison however the maintenance standards are below those of Premier Inn, Citizen M etc. It appears that its market is large corporate or family quick turnover events rather than individual short-break visits with returning customers. Overall - very disappointed as really wanted to love it!
