Peninsula Boutique Hotel Port Douglas - Adults Only Haven

They claimed we were upgraded from a large suite to a Sea view. We were responsible for 10 pax bookings for the weekend. The room claimed to be an upgrade was half the size we booked for and paid for. Apparently the room we booked had a broken air-conditioner. No similar room was offered. No compensation offered. We're herefor a 70th birthday celebration and been let down. There was no communication prior to our arrival.😒

We were really looking forward to staying here because of the great reviews and pictures but we came away feeling very underwhelmed. The whole place is in desperate need of a re-vamp and deep clean! There was plenty of space in our room but everything is dated and in need of replacing and the whirlpool bath had small cracks in it so we didn't use it. We were there for 4 nights and the same bugs were on the balcony the whole stay so clearly no one had been in to clean in 4 days. We stayed on a B&B basis and the quality of the food was good however you can only pick one item from the menu and one hot drink, this is certainly not in keeping with any other 4.5 star hotel we have stayed at. The staff on reception were friendly but this closed at 6pm, again not 4.5 star service. The pool area was ok but again in need of a re-vamp. The best thing going for this hotel is the location, our room over looked the ocean which was lovely and it is in close proximity to all the shops/bars and restaurants. We didn't feel we had value for money and would say this is at best a 3 star hotel, not sure how it has acheived 4.5?

Restaurant closed in off season - not aware of this on booking

Great hotel. Lots of outdoor space. Lovely rooms with balcony overlooking the sea. Staff was excellent. Bed very comfortable. Location perfect. Highly recommend.

Disappointing experience at this hotel. Stayed for 10 nights and looked forward to our stay after seeing the pictures but sadly the hotel does not match up. The entire hotel desperately needs some attention, from the rooms (should be cleaner) to the pool to the restaurant and service. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis and, although the quality of breakfast was OK the choice and portion size was sadly lacking and being limited to 1 hot drink with breakfast was not what I expect from an alledged 4 star hotel. We arrived just 2 hours before check in and, even though our room was ready they wanted us to pay if we wanted to have the room early. There were no evening meals available as the kitchen was having work done although we saw no signs of this. Getting a drink in the afternoon from the bar was a challenge to say the least and no bar at night as all the staff went home. While I understand the wet season in Port Douglas is classed as out of season you are either a hotel or you are not and if you are accepting paying guests you should provide all the services of a hotel. I can only hope this hotel, which is in a lovely location starts to earn its rating.

Place needs updating and cleaning Very tired, old needs remodeling badly for the rates they are charging The restaurant open for breakfast only Breakfast was excellent only redeeming factor. Would not recommend if you want luxury Felt like a hotel in Mexico or Dominican Republic

Great position- next to the beach and easy walk to town center and coles... Good to have breakfast at the hotel restaurant. Good the staff will help organise tours etc. liked the free airport pickup. liked the free use of bicycles- beach towels- swimming pool. nice friendly staff. nice relaxing break.

the hotel is very shabby and needs either a makeover or all the many chipped, worn and broken things fixed. It also needs a good clean, from old cobwebs everywhere and algae green umbrellas to dirty dishes and cutlery. the balcony is a high concrete wall which is too high to see over when sitting down and the sea view is mostly obscured by seafront trees. mostly acknowledged negatives from reading other reviews from years ago- but still no change?

The Hotel is rated 4star but sadly falls very short of that. The room was well appointed but the cleanliness was poor. In a 7 night stay the floor was not vacuumed or mopped at all. The room & en-suite needed updating. The balcony could have been spectacular with a sea view but again it was dirty and not well maintained - metal structure was very rusty and even the stainless steel railing was filthy so you did not want to touch anything making it un- usable. The glass doors to the balcony had obviously not been cleaned for months as you. Luke hardly see through them. The reception was only attended until 5pm and the restaurant was closed every evening so there were no hotel personnel around if you had queries or issues.
