Holiday Inn Express Cleveland Downtown by IHG

Hotel is in a great location. Visited Cleveland to see the Tigers play the Guardians which was walking distance to the park. The hotel has seen better days. While it was fine for 1 night, I wouldn’t stay there again. In need of a serious update.

Room was clean, property has a lot of character. Definitely wouldn’t go outside after dark though

Excellent location downtown. Easy walks to R&R HoF and the baseball field. Funky building, shows its age, but not shabby (except the elevator, which was vintage and looked it). Friendly staff. Huge room (double) with wonderful high ceilings. Breakfast and fitness rooms were basic, but served their function fine. Good value. Would stay again.

The room was way bigger than I expected. I tried to use the hair dryer attached to the wall but it was not functional. I didn’t see the other one hanging on the door until much later. Valet was a mess. When checking out we were told the wait for valet was 30 minutes. We were offered to bypass if we wanted by going to pick up our vehicle, which we chose to do. The gentleman then walked so fast we couldn’t keep up as we had a lot of bags. Another group said that the floor our car would be on was written on the top of the ticket but ours said OMM? We had to go into every floor and found ours in a dark corner. It was frustrating.

I guess I should have listened to the reviews and booked a different hotel! This hotel is definitely showing its age and lacks housekeeping/maintenance standards in common areas. Only real benefit was the proximity to downtown attractions. First, the "good": the rooms were very large the rooms and bathroom were clean the person working the breakfast area was very friendly and very accommodating! Then, the not so good: the first impression walking into the check in area - it smells and is dark and gloomy - not what you want your customers to feel as they walk in your front door! housekeeping in common areas is very lacking - dirty rugs in elevator areas, and in the breakfast area. Does anyone focus on these common areas? dirty surfaces on food serving areas in the breakfast area (like the doors on the baked goods display)- so much so that we did not eat the food there or consume the premade coffee elevator interior is beaten up and old looking - again, first impressions.... the fact that this was another building in a different life is very evident - its connection on each floor are choppy and just not integrated no access control in the elevator to the hotel floors! anyone could walk on and be in the hotel itself the valet service - so many opportunities! with the exception of one young man, they were crabby and unfriendly, acted like we were putting them out to get our car. We did park one day on our own at a garage next door, we should have just stuck with that plan the whole time. Other things you might want to know (not in the hotel's control): on game days, it takes FOREVER to get your car from valet - took us almost 2 hours due to the back up on the roads and in the parking ramp the street out front (and the general area) can be a bit sketchy from a safety standpoint - keep your head on a swivel (and hence my comment above about security controls lacking at the hotel) We have stayed at numerous hotels that are in reclaimed historic buildings and have loved them. This place CLEARLY has not embraced how they could make their hotel a jewel in this cool building! Given its general state (see notes above), I am surprised IHG keeps this property in their inventory. Pick a different downtown hotel!

The hotel was an older building transformed into a hotel. It was clean, but some elements are just old—which is charming—but also things are harder to clean, elevators are smaller, etc. Staff were polite and friendly, the breakfast was awesome.

Our two queen room only had one chair. Corners were very dusty. Refrigerator door struggled to stay shut. Room was shabby. Valet parking was great and location was excellent. Bed was super comfortable. Room service took most of our towels the first day and I needed to request more.
