"Perfect hotel in St Brelades"

10.0

We are just home from a week’s stay at the Gorgeous Golden Sands hotel. My husband and I travelled with our children who are 12 and 14, and we all had the most amazing time. This hotel is special not just because of the amazing views (we had a superior family room with sea view balcony) but the staff make the experience special. Every member of staff were lovely but we must make special mention of Martin who was an absolute gem. He was friendly and funny and our kids adored him, he served us on many occasions always with a smile and lots of personality. The lovely gentleman who cleaned our room perfectly every day was a gem, always helpful and cleaned our room spotlessly but always with a smile. The bedroom was beautiful and spacious with very comfortable beds. The balcony was a very welcome addition especially on one evening where it was around 30 degrees. On that evening we asked for another fan and this was brought up immediately. Our younger child enjoyed having the ‘family room’ on the first floor where we were able to borrow footballs and spades etc. This room also had DVDs and books to borrow and would be a great room for families to utilise especially with younger children. The last time we visited Jersey we stayed in the Christina hotel which was also beautiful but we felt that the beach at St Brelades was better with the added bonus of having the RNLI and water sports activities on hand and we didn’t miss the outdoor pool as the beach is right outside. Other brilliant points were - breakfast was amazing. Bus stop right outside hotel. A 15 minute walk up a beautiful road takes you to Waitrose, pharmacy etc. There are other gorgeous restaurants on the doorstep of the hotel. Thank you Gorgeous Golden Sands, we cannot wait to come back!

"Money and profit over human compassion"

2.0

Money and profit over human compassion. We booked 4 nights costing over £1200 My mum became seriously ill where we were informed she is unlikely to survive. She opted and needed emergency surgery and went to ITU. We are living on tender hooks. This was explained to Anthony at reservation who wouldn't reschedule the holiday which was our 30th wedding anniversary and told me I had to go through my insurance as there was only 2 days until we would arrive and unable to sell the room. They got there money. After I resigned myself he wasn't going to shift his decision on goodwill as we have visited many time and recommended many people he had the audacity to ask would I book the other date I requested. So upset. The insurance company and British Airways were compassionate and extremely helpful.

"A real gem of a hotel - great experience"

10.0

Put simply, this is a lovely hotel. We had booked the hotel for a short break in Jersey, having never been to that part of the island before. It was a leap in the dark, but it certainly paid off. We arrived mid-day and immediately felt welcome, with helpful, friendly receptionist getting us checked in and putting our bags aside until the room was ready. Off to the bar for a coffee - again the staff couldn't do enough for us - friendly, welcoming and efficient. After a little while the receptionist came to us and let us know our bags were in the room and it was ready - I compare this to so many paces where I'VE had to chase reception for my room - great! The room (211) we chose had a sea view and boy was it a good one! Lovely little balcony, beautiful views, nice wide window, (with a good lock!). The room was super clean, not a speck of dirt, smelt fresh and looked great. No shabby/worn furnishing! It felt secure and safe - important. The bathroom was a decent size in good clean condition, a shower bath, a massive sink and soft-close loo (YES! It's the little things which matter!) We had decent shower with gel and shampoo, and a nice branded soap as complimentary items. Love it! The bedroom was a reasonable size with a couple of nice sized mirrors, a dressing table and a couple of chairs, and oh-joy plenty of sockets easily reached ! The beds (twin) were of good size with a reasonable mattress and lovely linen - again this makes a real difference. Plenty of storage space, even for a longer stay. TV and coffee making - tick, loads of milk (yes! Some of us like milky drinks), note-pad and pen (again it's the little things, thank you!) complementary water - so often forgotten now - tick, Hairdryer, and a fan - YES!! In-room safe - OK for phones/cash/passports a little too small for laptops, but you could store stuff in reception. Wifi - widely available, fast and stable - thank you from someone wanting to get his Test match updates! The hotel was quiet and very welcoming, and we had no issues with requesting extra towels and dropping the laptops in reception, etc. Everyone seemed to want to provide great service and had pride - loved it! Breakfast - Very good quality and choice - once again helpful staff, once again care and attention to looking after the guests. Loved the full English myself, but light options in the buffet were just as nice - plus some great coffee/tea options. (Breakfast with poor coffee is a no-go for me!) We had drinks in the bar - very nicely made, reasonable price - and an evening meal (very impressed with the quality) at a decent price - (see other review). As an aside - the hotel have an app to encourage using their restaurant/bar by offering "cash back" on purchases. I have to admit I wasn't thinking it would be worth it - but I was wrong, we got almost £20 back on our bill, that is worth it! Niggles - none really. (If was was picky I'd say lighting needs to be a little brighter - but this is common with so many places I've stayed - but it is an environmental saving not to waste energy so I cant say this was a major failing). So, overall, a short but very sweet stay in a a really nice hotel. Not cheap, but superb value and highly recommended. To the operators - your staff are a real asset, your hotel stands as an example many others could do well to follow. Please don't let this slip! To the staff - thank you for making us welcome, taking care of us and all the smiles - you are special.
