Vidamar Resort Madeira

Excellent location, helpful staff, good services and excellent room.

The hotel was perfectly positioned for us, a 20 minute walk into the hustle and bustle of Funchal but once you step into the hotel an oasis of peace, quiet and uninterrupted sea views. Staff were very friendly and helpful, the dine around option with different restaurants was great and our sea view room was fab

We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights and found it great value and an enjoyable stay. It is in a god location amongst several good hotels and restaurants and a 20 minute walk from the main town/marina. The staff were all exceptional, friendly, efficient and willing to go the extra mile. We stayed on a half board basis and found the food variety and quality pretty good. We ate at the Sushi restaurant and the local madeiran restaurant one night each and had 3 nights at the buffet. The sushi was well done and amount served in the half board option was generous, whIlst the local food included tasty monkfish and chicken skewers. We also enjoyed the Thalasso Spa and had several treatments the best of which was an Aromatherapy massage, Spa prices are very good value compared with London prices. There was different live music in the bar after dinner 9pm-11pm which were all fine, and one evening exceptionally good. The only negatives were the coffee in the main restaurant for breakfast was from a machine but tasted like bad instant coffee and we found the pillows to be uncomfortable , hard foam, whilst we are used tp feather ones. All in all I would highly recommend it.

The resort met, or even exceeded, expectations. It is modern and spacious and located in one of the best spots in Funchal. Staff were very courteous and the service is excellent.

All of the staff is so friendly. So many of them spoke several languages. Breakfast and dinner were included and the food was not only delicious but the buffets had a nice variety. The views were unbelievable. Great location with shopping and restaurants all in walking distance. The airport was a scenic 20 minute taxi ride.

Excellent location, an easy walk into Funchal. Accommodation is always well presented and rooms large and well maintained. High rooms with seaview are lovely and get the sun all day, Restaurants have good menus and well priced. We particularly like the choice of Gins in the Lisbon Bar. The staff everywhere are most helpful and work hard to make you feel welcomed.

This was our first trip to Madeira and had no idea where to stay. I picked the Vidamar Resort from Expedia's list of hotels pretty much at random. Well, we fell on our collective feet! We were greeted at reception witch news that we had been upgraded and shown to a wonderful room up on the 10th floor with fantastic views out to sea. A comfortable and sheltered balcony gave us somewhere to enjoy the view. The suite was huge and comfortable and the room facilities excellent. The hotel has several restaurants. We tended to use the Ocean Restaurant most of the time. This was a well organised buffet-style providing a a sumptuous ranges of fruits, salads, cheeses, entrees, sweets, and ice creams. One evening we used the in-house Japanese restaurant "Koi" - this was exquisite. I suppose the real test of the hotel is whether we would return... well yes, without doubt. (I do hope they improve their WiFi speeds, though).

Hotel was great overall, good staff, decent breakfast with an array of options. Several swimming pools to choose from as well as access to the sea. Didn't sample the restaurants as there are a lot of great places to eat in Funchal and can't comment on the gym or spa facilities. The room itself was a good size, with a sea facing balcony, sofa and a very well appointed bathroom. The decor could do with updating in the rooms - the base of our table had some chips and scratches and a few other marks and the interior design is maybe a little dated but this is my only gripe. Overall, I would recommend this hotel to anyone planning to visit Funchal and would definitely stay here again
