The friendliness of the staff.

The service was exceptional. After reserving my room on a third-party site, I was placed in a room that was too noisy (2d floor next to a train track). This was not intolerable on the weekend, but come Monday, there was constant traffic on the tracks starting at 05:00. When I mentioned this to the staff, they moved me to a room that was as far away from the tracks as possible. I ended up extending my stay. Room service was pretty fancy. The chef makes an amazing mushroom soup.

The hotel itself is beautiful, but unfortunately our room was a huge disappointment. Thankfully, it was only for one night, if we had booked a longer stay, I would have requested a new room immediately. The room needed some serious attention. One lamp didn’t even work, and the shower was broken. After attending a wedding, all I wanted was a shower and a good night’s sleep. Instead, I spent time trying to get the shower working, only to end up with a weak dribble of water. Even worse, I couldn’t fully turn it off, so I was kept awake most of the night by the sound of running and dripping water. Since my husband was asleep, I didn’t want to call down to the front desk at 1:30 am, so I ended up stuffing towels around the bathroom to try to muffle the noise. We had chosen to stay here after the wedding, but I honestly came close to just calling a cab and going home. Overall, a very disappointing experience.

Great hotel. Rooms are modern, but property takes you back in time. Nice downtown location.

My stay at Fairmont Palliser is the most extraordinary experience I’ve had in all hotels. I called about a slow-draining shower at 10 PM but did not expect the housekeeping staff and engineering to show up at 10:20 PM and resolve the situation. On top of that, the reception offered to move me to another room! The situation was resolved so quick that I declined the offer to move. The next day, the manager followed up to ensure my satisfaction and delivered some food to my room :-) while I was at a party. I told my friends who were staying in another hotel how amazing Fairmont was. Thanks Georgen! Definitely will choose Fairmont next time. As the Uber driver said - Fairmont Palliser is the best hotel in Calgary!!!
