Cawthorne House

We had a lovely four night stay at Cawthorne House. Pascal, the host was very friendly and helpful and our room most comfortable with everything we needed. The breakfast was very good, with varied possibilities within the menu. We will definitely return.

We booked Cawthorne House ahead of a trip on the steam railway.we needed somewhere close so we didn't have to drive We were greeted by Pascal who showed us to our very lovely room . Shortly followed by a complimentary glass of fizz and homemade canapes. Breakfast is pre order , plenty of it cooked fresh with berries and yogurt to start. All served on very pretty china .. Just attention to detail,that goes a long way. Oh and I nearly forgot.... homemade sourdough bread, absolutely delicious.. A lovely couple of days spent. Certainly would not hesitate to stay again should we be in the area.

We booked in Cawthorne House on the back of the reviews. And we were not disappointed Pascal is definitely the host with the most! A complimentary glass of fizz and canapes on arrival was a lovely touch. Especially after the long drive up. We had a walk into town for our evening meal, after reading some of the recommendations.. it's a nice easy walk with plenty of establishments to choose from. Breakfast was pre order and was absolutely delicious, we tried two different options on both days, the avocado on homemade sour dough was outstanding.. A lovely 2 day break.. icing on the cake was a ride on the Sir Nigel Gresley train..

We had the best time at Pascal’s Cookery School – Sourdough Masterclass at Cawthorne House in Pickering! We weren’t quite sure what to expect, but from the moment we arrived, we felt completely welcomed and at ease. Pascal is absolutely brilliant—so knowledgeable, funny, and a great teacher, even for total beginners. The whole weekend was a perfect mix of learning, relaxing, and eating amazing food. The course is really well-paced. We baked alongside Pascal, learning from him every step of the way, sipping on Prosecco and enjoying an amazing freshly made sourdough sandwich—absolute heaven! Throughout the afternoon and evening, between relaxing, exploring, and enjoying a canapé demonstration (and even taking some home!), we checked in on our dough regularly, stretching it and allowing it to prove. Dinner out at The White Swan was amazing, and then we headed back to “put our dough to bed” before rising early to bake our loaf before breakfast. The setting at Cawthorne House is just beautiful—cosy, welcoming, and in a great spot in Pickering. We left feeling so chilled out and ready to start baking at home. We’ve come away with a pot of sourdough starter, course notes, and a lifetime of sourdough support from Pascal (which we’ll probably need!). Honestly, if you’re even slightly curious about sourdough—or just fancy a weekend of great food and good company—we can’t recommend this enough. Such a fantastic experience! We had the most fantastic time at The Sourdough School with Pascal! From the moment we arrived, we could tell we were in for something special. Pascal is incredibly knowledgeable, and we loved hearing his stories while sipping on Prosecco, eating canapés and bonding over our shared love of food and travel. The hands-on sourdough baking experience was both fun and educational, and Pascal’s guidance made the process feel easy and enjoyable. Breakfast each morning was nothing short of spectacular, with the highlight being his unforgettable scrambled eggs. Waking up to the aroma of freshly baked sourdough was the perfect start to the day! The house itself is beautiful and it's ideally situated near lovely pubs and restaurants to explore before/after your class. We’d recommend namaste bengal and the white swan! We’re excited to have brought home our sourdough starter (yet to be named) and can’t wait to start baking on our own. Pascale has truly inspired us, and it's lovely to know we can reach out to him whenever we need advice on our bread-making journey. We’re already looking forward to coming back to learn how to make stollen at Christmas! Highly recommend this experience for anyone who loves food and wants to learn how to bake the perfect sourdough!

Amazing experience! Pascal was an incredible host, really friendly and knowledgeable. Room was super cosy, and the sourdough class was a really fun unique experience. Would definitely recommend and would love to stay again! Makes a great Christmas present.

There are not enough positive adjectives to describe our very wonderful stay with Pascal and his dear family. It really was perfection! Beautiful room; amazing food; feels like home; all delivered with so much love and care. Pascal showered us with BEAUTIFULL home baked treats - which we would find in our room; bubbly and divine canapes; the most AMAZING breakfasts!! Truly the BEST!! We stayed for 12 nights over the Christmas Holidays/New Year - we even had a Christmas tree in our room, complete with gifts on our arrival!! AND... a bottle of fine bubbly in a bucket, with chocolates, were waiting for us in our room on New Year's Eve! We were blessed with the most warmest kindness every single day. We truly enjoyed getting to know Pascal and always looked forward to returning home after our days out. Cawthorne House is a perfect place to stay for long stays (or short of course) - but I would happily take a month out of my calendar to stay again.... There is SO MUCH beauty in North Yorkshire. I have been caring for my parents for a year and needed complete rest in every way.... my peace returned to me in this place; my heart restored; my mental health strengthened; and so much more.... To anyone needing some TLC and proper rest... not just a break away for adventure - yes, there is much available for the more active types! But... for anyone needing restoration and peace... don't look any further... Cawthorne House is a must! North Yorkshire is magical; healing; renewing and simply stunning! We cannot thank you enough Pascal, everything you did, and provided, was with absolute excellence!

What an incredible stay we had. A beautiful room and the most delicious of breakfasts. We were so spoilt having homemade sourdough bread each morning. We were made to feel so welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Pascal is the most amazing host, so friendly and engaging. We would recommend this to all. 5 stars do not seem enough to rate this!

Amazing B&B that would put most 4/5 star hotels to shame. Lovely service from Pascal from start to finish. Amazing breakfast, lovely room with absolutely no bad points at all from this 2 day stay. Pascal is a world of knowledge about where to eat, my go to place in north yorkshire. We look forward tto staying there again.

Pascal was a fabulous host who made us feel utterly at home. Breakfasts were excellent and Cawthorne House is just a 5-minute walk from the centre of Pickering which was perfect for exploring the town and for our evening meals. We will certainly stay again.
